Yesterday, I hung out with the lovely Coco Rocha (oh-so-coco) and her husband, James Conran at their place in New York. Coco successfully completed her first flight with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision, and even managed to catch it out of the air, which is how most experienced pilots "land" their Phantoms. If you catch a Phantom and hold the throttle stick down for a few seconds, the props will disarm and stop.
If you are too impatient to wait for DJI to come out with Ground Station support for the Phantom 2 Vision / Vision+, you can add CAN-BUS to your Vision yourself and get support immediately. The video above is by Gary Hilton, who made his own CAN-BUS cable and installed 2.4G Datalink to enable Ground Station support.
A friend of mine got himself a new Phantom 2 Vision and brought it out to play for the first time. So, I joined him to shoot a fun video and yes, we had fun with it.

DJI gave me an evaluation Phantom 2 Vision, and I absolutely love the new cartridge-style battery system and props with integrated nut. The battery is a 5200 mAH 3S battery, which is 2.36x greater in capacity than the old Phantom's battery capacity. This thing will fly for 25 minutes straight, even with the weight of its integrated camera.

DJI is challenging assumptions that have been standardized by the RC hobby for no reason, and I'm hopeful that it will drive the whole industry to think before pushing forward! I hope that every company that sells a flying multirotor switches to cartridge-style batteries and motors that spin props tighter when flying.
DJI releases camera-equipped Phantom 2 Vision quadcopter DJI Innovations unveiled its GPS-enabled Phantom quadcopter less than a year ago, and since then it has become perhaps the go-to aerial platform for the GoPro HERO actioncam. In April, the company provided us with a sneak peek at the next model in the line, the Phantom 2 Vision. While there weren't many details available at the time, that's changed as of today, with the Vision's official commercial release. Among its new features are improved battery life, a video-stabilizing platform and most significant of all, an included HD video camera that allows for first-person-view via a mobile device.
