A few small updates on my orchids:
After two months, my Ascocendaās flowers are starting to fade. Nothing to worry about, it was just due time. Now that sheās done with the flowers, she has resumed root growth, as well as the growth of that keiki that apparently wasnāt completely trampled by the unfortunately placed root. There is also something new poking through the central axis. I donāt know what it is yet (root? flower spike? another keiki?)
As autumn is finally here and temperatures are dropping, I moved the orchid shelf and placed it directly in front of the window for full sun exposure from midday to sunset. Phalaenopsis arenāt high light orchids, but they can be acustomed to higher levels of light gradually, specially if temperatures are low, they wonāt get burnt. Their natural defense mechanism against high light is to produceĀ Anthocyanins, which serve a function similar to our melanin. They give the leaves a beautiful reddish/purplish hue that I love.
Phal the Fith seems to be producing another mutated/deformed leaf. You can barely see anything in the picture, but I just know from experience that that leaf isnāt okay. I thought that she had righted herself, but apparently no. *sigh* Gotta love her how she is.
