IVF requires ovarian hyperstimulation, followed by transvaginal oocyte retrieval, performed under sedation or anesthesia. Suppose the woman is under 35 and you get 10 oocytes. After fertilization and 3 to 5 days of culturing you get 4 normal looking blastocysts. You run your assay and rank your blastocysts. You transfer the highest scoring blastocyst. Congratulations! Your patient has a 50% chance of having a baby. If your patient is older (and many will be), you will get fewer oocytes, so you will have to be less selective. And the chance of carrying a baby to term drops, too. And IVF potentially produces inferior embryos (because of culturing and because you don't have the sperm-selection effects of natural reproduction). And repeated follicular puncture may decrease ovarian reserve. IVF is a terrible, expensive, invasive, janky, last-resort way to have a baby. It is not going to be used for society-level genetic engineering. I can imagine widespread use of free fetal DNA testing being used to screen for an expanded number of defects, but that is not the same as selecting embryos based on polygenic intelligence scores.

That's five @Stanford profs I'm aware of currently advising or assisting companies engaging in polygenic embryo selection (w/ @JanLiphardt & @cdbustamante for @OrchidInc). Super disappointing that they would engage in this scientifically bankrupt & morally repugnant enterprise.
