October is almost over!
That means project green challenge is to. I’ll no longer be the only one posting stuff about it, soon no one will be. Today is looking back on the ripples we have created due to the challenges. I think the biggest one for me is convincing my family to do Meatless Mondays with me. It’s a really neat thing to all do together. Hopefully that will continue. Anyways, I’ll hopefully remember to do it again next year too!
My pillow is made out of a synthetic fleece material. It was actually made by me in my pillow making phase. I got the fabric from Joann’s right up the road. Turns out, everytime you wash a fabric like this, it releases hundreds to thousands of tiny plastic micro fibers into our ecosystem. These made up 85% of the coast’s waste in 2011! They can get into food we eat such as fish who eat them, or salt. They are found in the ocean and in the air. This is kind of alarming! I had no idea that that happened. The article I found about fleece was mainly directed towards fleece clothing, but I see no reason why it would also be directed towards any fleece fabric. A safer more eco friendly fabric to make pillows out of is bamboo cloth! I knew you could make cloth out of bamboo but I never really considered the implications of what that meant. Hemp would also be a great alternative. *hint hint* legal hemp production please.
Fleece
Sheds mini fibers
These get in the air as well as water and food
Fish then eat them and in turn, we eat the fish
I don’t want to eat plastic!
Bamboo
Bamboo the plant grows fast, can be harvested without need to be replanted, and improves soil quality
It can be produced without any chemicals
It is soft
And it is hypoallergenic

@turninggreenorg In a handful of soil, there are more living organisms than there are people on the earth.

This is my daily inspiration for day 13, wellness. It’s important to care for yourself as well as your surroundings. Stay happy :)
This is a pollinator post!!! I found a particularly cool one that we have in our backyard during the summer. Although I didn’t take this picture, I googled the following name, it is a hummingbird hawk moth. They are super cool and odd beings that help with pollination along with bats, bees, and other assorted insects and animals. They are super important to our environment and the food we eat! Protect pollinators :)
Water usage!
Today’s challenge is kind of ironic because it is about water and we just entered a drought. How fun. I was really surprisedat how much water people use per day! Check to see how many gallons per day, it’s cool I promise! And a bit sad as well.
