Happy Diwali!! It’s the festival of love, light and kindness. We pledge not to burst crackers and spend this festive season with our loved ones and care for our fellow beings. Is your dog scared or anxious of fireworks? Here are few tips, to help calm your dog. - Exercise thoroughly before cracker time. Tired dog is less anxious dog. - Shut windows and draw curtains, keep lights on and play some calming music or switch on TV to camouflage the light and sound. - Let your dog sit or hide wherever he/she is comfortable. Some like to stick to their humans and some like to hide under furniture. - Let your dog sit next to you but do not cuddle or pacify your dog, that will reinforce the fear. You rather act ignorant to the sound to show that there is no threat and nothing to be anxious about. - Lavender oil works wonders in calming dogs and humans. You can either light lavender essential oil in aroma oil diffuser or take few drops on your fingertips and massage (gently stroke) your dog near head and ears. - You can also get your dog used to earmuffs or a thundershirt that helps in calming anxiety or fear issues. - Lastly, during outdoor exercise / walks, make sure your dog’s collar/harness is tight and well buckled up.
