So I was thinking about Petscop and the delineation bt Care A, B, and NLM and the fact that the gameās mechanics treats her like those are three different people. This probably isnāt relevant to the series and wonāt mean anything, but it strikes me as being similar to how a child (or, hell, anybody) can have their sense of identity really messed up by trauma to the point where they canāt see themself from the past as even being the same person as themself. Because obviously itās pretty clear that A, B, and NLM are Care becoming progressively distraught and itās also pretty clear that whatever sheās experiencing is traumatic.
Iām not the only person Iāve heard of who experienced trauma at different stages of my life and ended up being unable to see the recipient of those experiences as being one same person. Someone who knows more about child development than I do would probably know for sure, but I think? that this is something that wouldnāt be surprising as something a child experienced because children (or at least some who are young enough) do not have strong enough senses or understandings of identity and who can therefore have a kind of cognitive dissonance that would make it hard for them to accept that certain things happened to them. (I mean this is how dissociative identity disorder is a thing and why itās a product of childhood trauma.) So basically, Care (who is obviously a child) has trouble reconciling that her pre-trauma self was the same person as her mid-trauma self, and once she gets far enough into that experience where sheās at the Care NLM point, she has trouble believing that the traumatized child she was before is the person experiencing this horrible escalation of trauma that could easily just be another phase of the experience. (Like...this may sound weird but does anyone else find that sometimes traumatic events tend to have phases where things are better or worse? Like the thing is traumatizing and bad right from the start but it gets worse in a way that almost feels like the actual situation itself has become something different than it was before.)
Anyway. that probably isnāt relevant to anything because the game does recognize that Care NLM can become Care A again and thus treats all the versions of Care as the same person, at least as far as the game text is concerned and stuff, but I always wondered if there was some kind of significance to Care B that we hadnāt really thought of in the same way weāve thought of the significance of Care A and Care NLM. Probably itās to reinforce the idea of cycles by showing it as a thing that had multiple steps/parts as opposed to just one thing turning into another (having three or more components would make it a sequence as opposed to just two things different from each other). But thatās something I think about a lot so maybe thatās a thing.
Okay so does everyone remember how the Petscop profile picture changed and so did the description. So I think we all know that the description changed again. The last sentence in it is āWhen the time comes, we will turn on the light.ā Both the icons were of a dimly-lit location with darkness towards the back of it where, if something were there, we wouldnāt be able to see it.
How much you wanna bet that when āthe time comesā, weāll see if somethingās there.
