I think all of the Marauders have this passionate investment in the mythology they've created around their friend group: that they are special, that they are deeply loyal to each other and the group is a substitute family (for everyone except James lol) and that they would do anything for each other and so their relationship has this mystical power. Hence why Sirius and Remus feel so deeply betrayed. But Peter is the most invested out of all of them, actually. Peter believes that this friend group is Exceptional which is why he puts up with their shit--he might be sucking up to James but it means he's in the magic circle.
And then James starts dating Lily, and she is let in on their secrets. Sirius and Remus like Lily! Because they are capable of socializing outside the Marauders. But for Peter breaching the magic circle is a massive betrayal. But he can't resent James, so he turns his resentment on Lily for like...existing (stealing his myth) and then on muggleborns and women more generally.

Iām (re)watching teen wolf and in season 4, Peter isnāt on the deadpool : I know itās because Meredith listened to his thoughts and created the deadpool based on how he wanted to create a new population of BH supernaturals to his image, but then the Mute attacking him doesnāt like any sense. Why would he try to kill him if he wasnāt on the deadpool ? Did he just do it for fun ? (and for free ? the guy is an assassin, heās not usually killing people for fun) Perhaps Meredith told him to hurt him a little so he would be off the list of suspects ?
Iām a huge subscriber to the idea that there is a trio of things to be in the supernatural world of teen wolf; essentially hunters, shifters and emissaries, for lack of a better word. Iāve explained it before, but basically:
-a human with human weapons, such as the hunters, noah and melissa
-a shifter that themself is the supernatural weapon, such as werecoyotes, werewolves and kitsuneĀ
-a human with the ability to wield a supernatural weapon of some kind, like lydia, deaton or jennifer.
all three contain different variations on a theme. and stiles belongs to the third. I think most of us can agree that it looks like heās part of the third category, but how?
the first clue, really, hit me way later than it should have, and thatās the remark about him playing an online game that battles mythical creatures. with how quick he was to take everything in, never doubting the facts in front of him, I believe that game was WoW. itās also the most popular one, so in all likelyhood, thatās it. if jeff davis has known all along what stiles is, I think this was a small nod. but letās talk about the other clues.
his name. Ā jeff talked about stiles and his humanity way back around season 2 (note! the season of the WoW comment) and said he was more like perseus with his sword. long story short perseus was given preternatural weapons to fight medusa. mieczyslaw means sword and glory, and I think thatās a nod to that inspiration. that also fits the emissary category.
his nickname. a stiles is a set of steps or a ladder or something that helps people cross over walls and fences without letting livestock or whatever might be inside the fence out.Ā
jeff has said very early on that stiles and lydia are two sides of the same coin. heās been drawn to her from the beginning, and I have an idea why. itās has less to do with a romantic relationship and more to do with bonds, which Iāll clear up later, but basically I believe her banshee status and what stiles really is is very closely connected. itās also why she was chosen as his anchor, and why she keeps bringing him back.
stiles heals faster than humans should, especially from things like kanima poison. when him and derek were paralyzed on the sheriff station floor and derek stared at him after theĀ ādude, I can move my toesā I donāt think it was because derek was healing slow. I think it was because stiles was healing fast. he was also the only one in the right place to affect the mountain ash to let tracy out from the clinic, because she couldnāt have broken the barrier herself. if she had, it wouldnāt have broken the way it did. he had no way of defending himself against her talons though, so instead of getting up, he feigned paralyzation and let her out. he also seemed to recuperate faster from being drugged during lydiaās party.
in fact, derek may be one of the only ones whoās truly figured out what stiles is- this because of the spark conversation with one of the twins (canāt remember which one), stiles kinetically affecting the mountain ash and repeatedly waking up those who should be dead or unwakeable.Ā
stiles keeps talking to people who shouldnāt be able to communicate. punching poisoned derek back to life, talking to jackson while heās ODād on ketamine, isaac he only goes under when stiles grabs his legs, heāll only focus when stiles is holding them and when isaac stands up, he talks to stiles directly. it should be noted that immediately after heās awake and the weather outside stops, deaton and stiles both say things related to thunder (stiles uses the word thunderdome instead of arena, deaton saysĀ āstorm in thereā), but weāll get to that later. he brings back cora and derek from the brink of death again despite it being supernaturally induced by jennifer and just recently he woke people up in the train station that he didnāt have emotional connections to.
sparks. so many sparks. stiles got fucking electrocuted at the same time as kira to the point where his bat was magnetic and he still walked out of there. he connects lydia over a radio, there are lights flickering when heās angry and when the nogitsune takes over.
stiles has died three times. the ice baths, the car crash and the nogitsune slicing his stomach open.Ā
Iām going to make an assumption for the last one, but itās not a far reach: the nogitsune changes appearance and power, right? with rhys it has shiny teeth, with the yakuza boss it had white eyes and several rows of teeth and with stiles it had.. nothing, really. I believe it takes the strongest being, the one it can use the most. the bandaged nogitsune in stilesā mind was a mix between the yakuza boss and rhysā burnt body, given the teeth and the bandage. so whatever the nogitsune did in stilesā body, stiles was already capable of. and when it sliced stiles open it did so knowing what a threefold death would do to stilesā powers. as did noshiko, which is why she was so terrified.Ā
Ā
now, letās talk norse mytholgy, and parallels with teen wolf that you should know of.
the norns. the norns were called urd (what once was), verdandi (whatās coming to be) and skuld (what shall be). they lived under yggdrasil, the world tree, in a well, matching allison, stiles and scott sacrificing themselves in water to the nemeton. I think allison was what was, stiles was what was becoming and scott what would become later on. Ā around the beginnings of stilesā nogitsune problem there were speculations that allison got out relatively free because her main fear, becoming kate, was something sheād already dealt with. she almost fell into it while hunting boyd and erica as while she grieved her mother, but she got out of it and she survived. there was also talk about scott never really dealing with his fear of becoming a monster alpha, something we saw shine through later on when he both dreamt of killing liam and when he shifted more fully during the fight with the assassin team.Ā
the three sacrifices and self-sacrifice to the world tree: odin is closely tied to sacrifice, partially for hanging himself for a couple of days to gain knowledge. the threefold death has been presented in a lot of ways; sometimes itās through water and fire, other times being stoned, pierced by a stake and drowning, both in relation to merlin, but itās also very present in old norse texts. the theme of stabbing, drowning and blunt force trauma is present in those, too. remember how stilesā three deaths are different from those jennifer performed?Ā drowning, blunt force trauma, slicing himself open.
odin has a shit-ton of names. I canāt even begin to list them all. stiles, mieczyslaw, mischief, stilinski, bilinski... yeah.
odin speaks with the dead. hereās a parallel to the ghost riders, actually, because odin gets to the underworld by riding sleipnir, which is a horse, as some of you might already know. itās very heavily emphasized that this is something only odin and possibly sorceresses can do.
odin gets much of his knowledge through hugin and munin, two ravens that sit on his shoulders and tell him what theyāve discovered when theyāve flown around the world. this has sometimes been interpreted as the farseeing part of shamanism, and sometimes depicted as two actual birds, but theyāre a part of odin that has been present for a very long time.Ā
odin practiced seid, a type of sorcery he was taught by freya. this is very, very female coded (most likely because of related fertility rites and the sexual components of them), and even if there were a small amount of male seid practitioners it was heavily frowned upon. stiles is one of the few younger male Ā characters on the show that hasnāt been presented as manly eyecandy in one way or another, and on top of that his queerness has been hinted at for years. odin being queer in one way or another tends to go untouched by media using him, but he was.Ā
Ā there are other norse parallels, like peter and the ones heās turned paralleling loki and lokiās children:
-hel, ruler of the realm of (most of) the dead. peter bit lydia and she became a banshee.
-jƶrmungandr, the serpent. it has also been in the shape of a cat. remember when we talked about how scaly kate looked like, before the werejaguar thing was confirmed? (itās also an ouroboros.)
-fenrir, the wolf. I think you can guess the parallel here.
peterās also very close to loki in behaviour and consequence. usually when somethingās up, itās lokiās doing, but even when itās not heās called in to deal with the results of whateverās going on.Ā
I also believe that lydia is largely drawn from freya, and that this is where the ātwo sides of the same coinā comes in for her and stiles. not only is freya a goddess of fertility and sorcery but sheās also a goddess of war and death. when you die in battle, you either go to freya or to odin.
so how does world of warcraft fit in, then? one of the most written about characters in wow is thrall, one of the most powerful shaman to ever have lived, whose parents died when he was young and whose birthname we didnāt know for years.
I believe stiles is a shaman, by itās norse definition, and that this inspiration comes largely from odin himself.Ā
and herein lies the biggest kicker- I think stiles is what will not only defeat the wild hunt, but also mr alpha nazi. because if anyone can control a hound of the hunt, it would be odin. whip or no.
and I think that the gang will all either walk out the way lydia walked in, or theyāll defeat the riders and leave through the portal on their horses. and if Iām right, stiles and lydia will be the only ones left unscathed.Ā
Ā meta in bold, fangirl in cursive, general thoughts in regular text.
oh man, weāre in for a treat right away. one of the names on the arrival board is Pripyat, the working town where the Chernobyl disaster happened in 1986. thatās also where Deaton went in Ouroboros for leads on the dread doctors and got kidnapped by the desert wolf instead. Ā after that comes boneville, and when I googled that and disappearances I got a page about a missing bonneville power administration worker who disappeared in 1987 from a power station. bodie, ca, seems to be a ghost town, according to another quick googling. so we have two ghost towns, one abandoned gigantic power plant and one missing power plant worker. both power plants, missing people and ghost towns have been big issues in this show so far. the arrival towns are all ghost towns, or civilizations that have disappeared.Ā
goddamn my ep is low quality. if I miss something itās probably because I canāt fucking see
oh baby
OH BABY
lmao he was just parked outside of derekās loft?Ā
the eyecolours are really fucking gorgeous
bh doesnāt have a train station but it has a fucking train depot. nice.
this shit only happens in scooby doo
Ā wanna bet they come and leave through the third rail?
Iām just gonna leave this here. stiles has been crossing over time and time again for seasons, only this time heās coming at it from the other side. no wonder heās connected to opening doors.
Ā OH BURN
itās probably gonna be derek remembering them both or something. honestly.Ā
that old lady reminds me of araya
someone obviously didnāt steal stilesā car radio cause that shit is not silent
yeah okay. claudia wore plaid shirts. Iām not crying, you are.
oh god, he thinks heās gone. heās just trying to save them. fuck my actual life, Iām gonna go cry now.
I was reading one of your past answers about Scott being the beast but after watching the most recent episode and when the beast is seen he's inside with Kira and then you see everyone running inside the school. I also feel that since Stiles was void he wont be the beast. but they might because people wouldn't expect two times. there aren't many facts to prove it but I think Mason could be beast. it seemed like Corey has some realization while kissing him and it might be that he's the beast
Hey, sorry for the late reply. Time is always running out on me these days. No time for the fun stuff. *pouts*
Ah the beast. I know things are sort of pointing towards Mason right now. Itās just tooā- obvious. If everyone sees it coming itās the lamest twist ever, and not a twist at all. I think and hope Mason is a red herring. If not, then Iām seriously disappointed in the writers. I love Mason to death and absolutely wants him to a have a kickass storyline, this just feels⦠no. just no.Ā
Iām still holding out hope for the beast to really be made of shadows right now, like Jeff has sort of hinted in interviews, and that it manifests separately from itās host. That would be awesome. And it makes the suspect pool so much larger and the twist that much more difficult to spot. Now more or less everyone has seen the beast, so it becomes a process of elimination. The writers usually pull off better and smarter twists than this - ever since 3a with the darach everyone saw coming, theyāve been pretty good at hiding their juicy reveals. It should pack a punch. Unless theyāre putting all their eggs in the Dread Doctor reveal being the talk of the town. Iām holding out for both.Ā
As for the Corey kissing scene - we donāt know why he froze. Mason didnāt say anything incriminating to my recollection. He wasnāt sprouting black shadowy tendrils either. So for all we know Corey couldāve simply sensed, heard or felt that the beast was coming, and wanted to get out of there without causing alarm or panic. Or he had a sudden realization not related to Mason, something he perhaps didnāt want to share with him for whatever reason..Ā
I know thereās a chance Iāll end up dead wrong about this. Iāve been holding on for Scott to be the beast, but Allison is another candidate Iāve throw around that absolutely would stun. Or Peter. Just the fact that he was mentioned last episode in relation to the beast and how itās getting stronger with every shift, just like Peter did in season 1, had my alarms tingling.Ā
The characters in the show and most viewers seem convinced that the beast has to be a human turned supernatural. I think thatās an incorrect assumption that has limited their search and view.Ā

What ever happened to Peter ?? Did Ian bohen leave the show ?? There are literally no Hales on the show anymore .
Well, Malia is supposedly his daughter so she could count for a Hale I guess :)Ā
I got a similar ask not long ago, but basically the last we saw Peter he was locked up in Eichen House with Valack. Since then we havenāt seen him, so we donāt really know where he is. Is he still locked away at Eichen? Did he escape with Valack? We just donāt know.Ā
Weāve had him mentioned or referenced, directly or indirectly in both season 5a and 5b, so I definitely think there is room for him to return. But with the way this season is shaping out I think any more Hale storylines if there will be any, will be pushed to 6a/6b.Ā
Stiles and Scott mentioned him in 5x02 when they had theĀ āYou donāt trust anyone/you trust everyoneā argument. Stiles accused Scott of still seeing some good in Peter, which he admitted.Ā
Then in the episode where Stiles and Lydia talks to Valack at Eichen, Valack commentedĀ āweāre all works in progressā, which is something Peter has said before, I believe it was when he was poking around in Lydiaās head in season 2. She recognized it and asked Valack where heād heard that. He admitted it was something his former cellmate had said, aka Peter.
Thereās a reference to Peter in the latest episode, so heās kept fresh in our minds
Scott: What if the Dread Doctors are trying to make the Beast grow faster?Ā Stiles: With frequencies?Ā Scott: No, by shifting. The frequency is just the trigger. The important part is when it shifts into the werewolf.Ā Lydia: Like Peter.Ā Scott: Right. Yeah, when Peter was an Alpha, he got stronger every full moon. Eventually, the burns healed and he was back to normal.
We havenāt heard anything about Ian Bohen not being a part of the show anymore. But other characters like Chris Argent hasnāt had much screentime lately either, so I wouldnāt worry too much. Peter is the kind of person that refused to stay dead. Heās probably off somewhere plotting his grandiose return.Ā
Iāve been saying I think Peter has been experimented on before, so I find the comparison between the beast and Peter both interesting and fitting. I donāt think or hope itās Mason. Iāve been holding on hope for Scott, but it would be kind of awesome if turned out to be Peter. If so this comparison will turn out almost prophetic :)Ā
Also, I havenāt given up the theory of Liam being a Hale either. But that is a whole other meta :)Ā
TW 5x15: The paw and the footprint - can theĀ manifestationĀ change shapeĀ as well?
Thereās a slight chance this wonāt make any sense (I have a fever) or add anything new to a discussion that Iām sure is ongoing but that I havenāt seen much off or taken part of due to being curled up in a fetal position for the last four days. Anyway, during one of my feverish half dreams (or nightmares, whatever) I had a thought about the beast, the footprints and beast alpha peter from season 1.
If this makes no sense at all, we can all blame the fever and move on. Good plan. And if itās been addressed already, just skip it and ignore. Even better plan *thumbs up*. Ā
I know these footprints has people a bit confounded, me included. Whatās most weird is perhaps that theyāre bloody, both as paws and as shoes, which does sort of indicate that the paws actually turned into shoes. There is no blood around, so who knows where it got this, perhaps itās from the beast itself maybe? Itās all very odd, so is it a trick to confuse them or is it just TV magic - a nifty effect to ensure that both Scott and the audience Ā notice it? Maybe itās that simple.
But if we assume that the paws are suddenly replaced by shoes, then this would either indicate that a) someone picked up the beast like it a was a cute lill Pomeranian and strolled out which seems unlikely, or b) the manifestation can change shape as well, between Elwood and the shape of its humanĀ āhostā.Ā
letās roll with it for a moment. I want to make a comparison to Peter...Ā
We now that Peter was comatose at the hospital in season 1. Derek visited more than once and all we saw him do in his human form was stare morosely out into thin air and in one memorable moment, twitch a finger
We know both from Peter himself and from what Lydia extracted from Meredith that Peterās mind was alert, even if his body was paralyzed. And he was very angry. VERY ANGRY. The beast alpha went on a revenge spree, killing anyone connected to the Hale fire. So what if beast alpha peter in reality was nothing but a manifestation as well? A manifestation of Peterās anger and lust for revenge. Perhaps helped along by experiments at Eichen, nurse Jennifer or dread doctors for all we know. I think itās likely Peter has been at Eichen House before, the flashbacks he shows Scott at least suggest this
In these flashbacks we see that Peter is in fact not comatose. Heās sitting up and clearly shaking his head while being showered. And the showers does resemble what weāve seen Lydia use this season.Ā
There is also blood dripping down a drain.
Which weāve also seen after trepanation, for example done on Lorraine Martin. Also in the shower/bathroom
So did someone experiment on Peter, amplifying his abilities? And did this result in his distorted wolf features as well as his comatose condition? Lydia does seem oddly obedient and is answering all of Valackās questions dutifully after heās drilled into her. Weāve theorized for ages that Peter was under someoneās control back in season 1. Is this how they did it?
(edit: funnily as I was about to post this, this exact thing was discussed with athenadark and auntpol just coming from another angle, see this post.)Ā
It does make sense.
But what if we take it a step further. what if whatever was done to Peter resulted in his anger manifesting as a solid entity - the beast alpha that roamed the city and did all sorts of weird stuff - while the comatose Peter was still in his bed?
The gif above is very interesting. It reminds me of numerous movies and series where a character steps out of their own skin. We see just one body - but this was Peter showing Scott his memories of events - he might not have been Ā aware of the manifestation himself, and so we only see what Peter thinks happened. In reality perhaps Peterās real body stayed behind and his shadow body woke up. And was thisĀ ācloneā (god I do love clone theories) capable of taking on a physical form - both as a man and a beast?
We see a flashback of Peter meeting Laura and heās in human form. But his fangs come out, in other words itās the start of his shift.Ā
And then we have beast alpha Peter killing the video store clerk and bursting through the window. This was captured on a surveillance camera and the sheriff got a hold of it. And the beast changed into what looks like a man, walking away on two legs.Ā
Interestingly, just as the beast jumped through the window, Lydia screamed. For the first time. That was possibly even what alerted Peter to her bansheeness. Did it even force the change? And if so, can her scream be a more powerful weapon than weād thought? Can Lydia scream at Elwood, force a change and expose whose manifestation it is? That would be seriously cool :)Ā
Something clearly changed to make comatose Peter not comatose anymore, and that was in episode 1x09.Ā
In the very same episode we have not just one, but two very clear mirror verse shifts. One is in Stilesā room (see this link for details), and the second at the hospital in Peterās room. Could this be connected somehow?Ā
When Stiles arrive the bed is pristine, like no one has been there for ages. the bed is different, the room looks more old-fashionedĀ
Then Derek connects the dots, and next the room is back to looking like this
And then peter heals his burns while looking in a mirror, the mirror spins, as if two sides of him - the shadow side = manifestation and his real self is merged into one. His shadow self could shift, aka he was in control of his wolfy powers. When they merged, human Peter also heals his burns.
We can perhaps draw a parallel to the other chimeras who didnāt realize what was happening to them in the beginning either. Tracy thought it was night terrors, when it was in fact happening. Was it like that for Peter as well? He didnāt realize at first what was happening, but when he did and he accepted it, he became one with his shadow self? Is the damnatio memoriae not only to make it remember what kind of beast it was and the history of it, but also to make the beast remember and understand who it is during the day?Ā
Iām being claimed by the fever again, so Iām going to roll over into a fetal position now . toodles.
On Peter and Malia you just reblogged. Derek recognized Cora because he remembered her but how Peter could recognise Malia if his memories were taken away? Just because she is Hale? On his werewolf abilities? But Derek didnāt recognize Peter in s.1 too. And we donāt know if D knew about Malia on s4, most likely he didnāt know for a while. As for Peter never doing something to harm Derek - I wouldnāt say bringing P back to the life was harmless, it looked like kind of dangerous ritual for Derek.
The post these questions/observations refer to is this one by @athenadark that I recently reblogged for those who want to know the background.Ā
Athena addressed a lot in her post, some of it with regards to how Hales seem to instantly recognize each other plus a section on how Malia is a conundrum that might or might not be Peterās daughter. Iām in complete agreement with Athena on the part about Malia and how Lydia might have heard wrong when she listened to Taliaās claws - at the time we didnāt know any Liam. But we did know a Malia, the names are quite similar when you speak them out loud. Even when you write them they seamlessly blend together. MaLIAMĀ
Our minds are wired to connected the dots we already know. Lydia couldāve heard it wrong and jumped to conclusions. And Malia might genuinely believe she is Peterās daughter. I donāt think sheās that good a liar. And on that note Liam did show signs of control issues (IED, anger issues, smashing his coachās car) and superb skills at lacrosse (Stiles even asks if heās a were-cheetah - get it? a were-cheetaā cheeter - which might be a clue that Liam is a chimera (I fell in a hole).) We know from the flashback with young Derek and young Peter that Derek had control issues when he was manifesting in high school. Itās not such a stretch to think that these things could be little signs of either a werewolf manifesting or a chimera awakening in Liam. Scottās bite couldāve been the catalyst needed to get it into full mode. Like Peterās bite did with Lydia back in the day.Ā
but Iām rambling now. sorryā¦.Ā
Athena also linked to a video of the scene where Peter meets Malia for the first time, and heās all eager until heās inspected her and questioned her about her eyes. After that heās almost indifferent and detached and uses her like a pawn in his plan that season. He displays no signs of being a doting father, which is in contrast to his initial interest, both when he meets Malia and when Lydia tells her about him being ānot just an uncleā. Peterās memories of his kid was taken from him, that is true. So yes, he wouldnāt be able to recognize his child by looks alone. But he was all eager puppy with Malia until heād inspected her, that is a fact. Why has never been explicitly explained. Hence all the speculations :)Ā
As for whether Derek felt or didnāt feel a family connection to Malia, that is neither confirmed nor debunked in canon. Like you point out Derek might not even know that sheās supposedly his cousin for all we know. Itās never addressed. Athena proposes an interesting interpretation of the material. And with regards to recognizing Cora vs Malia, I took it to mean that Derek instantly felt a connection or a bond when he saw Cora. There was possibly also a recognition based on her looks, but we need to remember that the fire was six years prior, making Cora 10 the last time Derek saw her. People change a lot in 6 or 7 years, and especially at that age with puberty and all that jazz. And his first look at her she was all wolfed out as well. We have enough hints in canon to believe that the wolfy powers manifests during the teenage years, so Cora probably hadnāt wolfed out by the age of 10. And yet Derek instantly recognized her even with fangs and glowy eyes. So yeah, she might look familiar, but itās quite plausible it was more gut feeling rather than visual confirmation. Or perhaps a mix of the two.Ā
Iām not sure what you mean about Derek not recognizing Peter in season 1? He visited him several times at the hospital, so Iām guessing you mean in his wolf form? We need to take into account that Peter turned into a beast alpha, which is not all common. It is probably miles away from how Peterās wolfy form used to be. We also know from canon that alphaās can hide their scent, so he wouldnāt have recognized him that way either. (Iām still say itās a good chance Peter was experimented on back then but that is another meta).Ā
What I think athena means when she says that Peter has never hurt Derek is that he in his very warped way does seem to protect his family. And yes, he used Derek in season 2 to be resurrected. I still think Deaton had a finger in that to be honest. And like Deaton said to Derek when he woke up, he neednāt worry he was still an alpha. Peter only used enough juice from Derek to get resurrected, but his life or alphaness was not hurt. The same when he encouraged Derek to save Coraās life. He was very adamant that Derek not take it too far, reminding him that it could kill him. Ā Peter is an odd cookie - heās such an obvious villain, itās worth looking closer at him. Heās got a warped sense of family pride and protectiveness that few if none seem to get.Ā
Not sure I made any sense at all, and athena might want to expand on stuff as well since the original post was hers.Ā
(forgive the ramblings. Iām slightly out of meta practice and high on Christmas candy)
