Last Desert Day (Part 2) With an important note at the end.

While Diego and Roman are on their way back to the base, Chloe has retreated to the bedroom after her errands. After she hadn't come out for a while, Peter went to check on her. “Hey, do you still have a bit of room in your shell?“/”hnhn, did you think I was going to hide away again?”.

Peter walked towards her with slow, ambling steps. “Well, whenever there's a big job coming up, you're hardly ever seen. Are you excited?"/ ‘No, hn…’/ ‘Or are you maybe scared?’/ ‘hh, no, it's all ok, I'm just… Thoughtful, that's all’/ ‘ok, and why, because of the mission?’/ ”No… Because of the time afterwards. I… I don't really want to go home…"/ ”Don't?!”.

“So, do you want to carry on here?”. She shook her head frantically. “N-no…"/ ‘then what?’. Chloe trembled a little with excitement. She had been thinking about this for a long time… “Is there any chance that… I could come with you for a while… to Korea?”/ “What?”/ “I called my aunt earlier and had a long talk with her. You know… After her, you've become the most important person to me, and, well… When I don't have you around, I feel kind of…"/ ‘Lonely?’ he asked her in a calm voice, looking her in the eye.

She shrugged her shoulders briefly. “Lonely and… lost. I know that when I get back home, I'd totally let myself go, I don't really have any friends there. I'd get bored at some point and then… I'd start eating too much again… I don't want that… I want…” Peter smiled again and then slowly and carefully took her hands in his. “To be with me?”.

Chloe wasn't expecting this gesture, but remained calm and withdrew from his gaze again for a moment. “But only if… you want me around you. I'd learn Korean if need be, if you don't necessarily want to be my interpreter, and…"/ ‘Chloe…’/ ‘I learn foreign languages quickly if I put my mind to it…’. He had to laugh because she couldn't stop talking. “hnhn, oh man, you're… really cute”.

Then she did look him in the eye, albeit fleetingly, “cute… O.k….”/ “Hn, Chloe… I think once I got home and unpacked my stuff… I'd probably miss your face and your laugh. I'd be bored as hell too and I'd miss it if you didn't wake me up from one of my countless nightmares at least once in a while”.

Without another word, he took her lovingly in his arms. “Peter…"/ He stroked her back as he looked out of the window and enjoyed her warmth… ”You really want to come with me? “ he asked her softly. “Mhm, yes… And I want to get to know your mom, your house, your great food…I'll probably miss my cat, but…"/ ‘We have one too, did I mention that?’/ ‘n-no…’/ ‘hn, you'll get to know her’.

After the hug . … “You really have a cat? What's her name?"/ ‘Deiji’. Chloe looked at him with amusement and then tried to repeat the name slowly. “Dei-dschi?"/ ”hnhn, yes, exactly…. Or if it's too difficult, just say daisy to her, that would be the correct translation…"/ ”hnhn, like the flower? I'll do that. Thank you, Peter…I'm looking forward to a good time…"/ ‘hn, yes, me too’.

While the others are still resting a little before they set off, Erin writes her last reports and prepares everything for the next officer, who will be staying at the base for the next few days. A replacement has already been arranged. “I think that's it. Yes, everything is ready. And if all goes well, we'll be there on Sunday”.

Later. Roman and Diego took care of the luggage that Erin really wanted to take with her. “That's all?"/ ”Well, if it were up to her, she would have taken more. But that's really the limit, unfortunately. And the parcels aren't light"/ ‘OK, oh boy, I hope it goes well’….

By early afternoon, all the important things that needed to be done before the flight had been taken care of. Now it was just a matter of waiting. Why? Well, due to the heat during the day, the helicopter absorbs a lot of heat, if only because of its color. So they waited until the evening, or even better until the night, until the entire machine had cooled down again. That way the engine runs better and the lady is not so sluggish.

It's just before 11 p.m. when the team makes its way to the helicopter together. “So, are you ready for the trip?"/ ”Sure. I'm excited to see what awaits us"/ ‘We'll make our first stopover in five hours’/ ‘But don't fall asleep at the wheel, Diego’/ ”Don't worry, I've got a few more energy drinks and with music in my headphones, it'll be a good flight. So… All aboard please”..

Once the entire team had taken their seats in the helicopter and the doors were closed, Diego slowly started up the old lady. Normally, this was done a few minutes before the passengers boarded. But today they didn't want to leave anything to chance. All the systems were working perfectly. And so they set off on the long journey - from summer to winter.
