Depois de estender o céu por cima de uma terra cujos elementos  tinham sido separados um do outro, Deus deixou de criar, para fazer: O Génesis usa dois verbos diferentes para marcar a diferença. Fazer é mais sujo que criar, que pode mandar o ar fino aceitar a substância.  Prometheus fez o homem salpicando o barro; Auguste Rodin, com cinco anos, achou os próprios ingredientes na cozinha. Ele viu a sua mãe, derrubar entrelaçamentos finos, de massa em óleo quente, e extrair pastéis crocantes; discernindo as formas do ser humano na massa retorcida, ele  pediu se podia fritar alguns homens. Praticando para ser um escultor, ele amassou a massa em formas que eram quase grandes demais para a panela. Ficou encantado quando o calor animou os seus protótipos grudentos: O óleo a ferver, fê-los contorcerem-se violentamente, apressando-os para a vida. era uma lição útil, que ele talvez tenha lembrado em 1864 quando produziu o seu primeiro busto , representando um homem com um nariz partido. Rainer Maria Rilke disse que Rodin fez esta máscara tal como Deus fez o primeiro homem. Making is dirtier than creating, which can command thin air to take on substance. Prometheus made man by dabbling in mud; Auguste Rodin, aged five, found his own ingredients in the kitchen. He saw his mother dropping thin twists of dough into hot oil and extracting crisp pastries; discerning human shapes in the contorted batter, he asked her if he could fry some men. Practicing to be a sculptor, he kneaded dough into shape that were almost too big for the pan. He was delighted when the heat animated his sticky prototypes: The spitting oil caused them to writhe, violently quickening them into life. it was a useful lesson, which he perhaps remembered in 1864 when he produced his first portrait bust, representing a man with a broken nose.
