A brief, honest message from a very pissed off current Petco employee
Fuck this company. We as employees have spoken out numerous times to our CEO in protest to his money grab scheme of selling frogs and arachnids in inhumane habitats. Every time we do he sends out a big "fuck you I can do what I want" with his "veterinarian" friend being paid to back his ass up saying what they're doing is ok. We're pissed. On top of that, threatening to fire me because I'm not selling a shit ton of autoship orders a week? I'm so fucking sorry customers say no to having to pay a shit ton for shipping for something they say they probably don't even need. And on top of all of this, I am being paid less than someone else in the same position as I am because I am assigned female at birth and appear feminine. I have worked here for years. I come in when you tell me to on my days off. I work full time hours and you deny me full time pay and I have to pay 25% of my paycheck for benefits. This company used to be great. We did what was best for the animal. We discontinued everything that was unhealthy or unsafe, but this current CEO is so hellbent on making a quick buck he brought back rawhide, unhealthy food, cutting corners to do inhumane things to the animals in our care. Fuck this fucking company. I would quit if I didn't need this job. Fuck this.

Petco has live animals in the checkout line at my local store. Small red and black Tarantulas, pac man frogs and jumping spiders. All colorful animals that likely are meant to catch the eye of children who will then badger their tired parents into purchasing while doing no research thus leading to the slow and agonizing death of the helpless pet. Sure they have a half hearted print out advising shoppers to not forget to buy them a larger home but like come on dude. I'm literally never shopping there again. I seriously considered buying one simply to save it from the next idiot who may or may not research enough into their basic needs to provide a good home but that would mean giving the company money thus incentivizing them to keep selling animals like this. How do we destroy this business model?
So, like, I was at petco this morning for my usual (80 lbs of dog food and two of the largest dog beds you've got) and there was an employee with a cart and a clear plastic tub with a half-dozen guinea pigs in it and I just sort of assumed she was re-stocking the guinea pig bins like avocados or something but I really don't think it works like that even at petco but still I saw what I saw.
