One time, when I was about 9, I went to a pet-themed summer camp with gerbils and snakes and cats. I was really looking forward to it, since I have always been an animal lover. However, the staff were all lazy 16-year-olds who had NO IDEA what they were doing. They didn’t care about helping kids, even though THAT WAS THEIR JOB. Instead, they made jewelry, flirted with each other and played the “boom snap clap” hand game. VERY LOUDLY.
One time, we were given some paper or something and after waiting around for 10 minutes, not doing anything, I asked a counselor what we were supposed to do. He just lazily asked his friend since he didn’t even know, and his friend just said “Uhhh... play tic tac toe??” but then I pointed out we weren’t given any writing utensils so they just shrugged and walked away. We were also supposed to make birdhouses but most of us didn’t know how to do it and no one would help teach us. Many of the staff members also dressed really un-professionally, in shorts so short you could see their buttocks, and they tied their shirts up to reveal their midriffs. It was weird.
At one point, we were going outside for a walk to a park. I asked which park we were going to, but again, he didn’t know. We ended up going to a skate park, which was really boring for all 30-something kids in the camp because we didn’t bring skateboards and there were none to borrow. So we just watched the counselors do skateboard tricks for like 30 minutes. They were playing loud music, (which is a weird personal trigger for me) so I asked if I could leave. They said no. I left anyway. They didn’t even notice until 5 minutes later. I’m sneaky like that.
It was a really bad camp but at the end of each day I got to sit in a giant cage with a cat named Mira, so it was fine.
