Because, on the one hand, I basically never ship canon ships. And I legitimately believe that the validity of your ship does not necessarily have anything to do with its canon status. I was, and still am, a hardcore Drarry shipper. We always knew that was never ever going to happen. To some extent, that only increased our passion for the ship and made us a tighter-knit community. I am in favor of shipping non-canon ships, and I don't want to be like "Harmony shippers should shut up, R/Hr is canon, we won," because you should always feel free to ship whatever you want.

And I believe that books belong to their readers, and I pretty much never care about word of god unless it supports what I already think, and I certainly don't think it makes something suddenly canon, but again, who cares if your ship is canon. And if JKR said something that supported one of my non-canon ships, you bet I'd be excited about it.
