Hey Christine! First off, congrats on your engagement - I wish you all the best! My question(s) involves two things that may or may not be related. Sometimes when I sing, it feels like there is phlegm stuck in the middle of my throat, but it doesn't come released when I lip trill, cough, or drink water. Do you have any tips for that? Also, what are your tips for getting rid of neck tension while singing? (And could the phlegmy feeling be related to that tension?) Thank you!
Hmmmm...Water doesnāt help... Ā The only thing I can think of is carbonated water. Ā I have no idea if this has scientific evidence but I always feel like when I drink soda water, phlegm is cleared from my throat. Ā Followers, any other ideas? Ā I canāt say I get a ton of phlegm because I rarely suffer from allergies, so Iām not sure! Ā Maybe neti pot? Ā
With the neck tension question, my teachers sometimes have my gently move my head around in little circles when I sing to let those muscles go a little. Ā If I start to get in a pattern, they have me do figure-eights. Ā Not sure if that would help for you, but it definitely helps me loosen up a bit!
