Itâs a Family Affair en America del Sur
The last 2 months have been crazy! We have had 11 guests, mostly my family and we went on a trip to Colombia to meet up with Ianâs family. We are exhausted!
It all started with an incredible and memorable 4 days shoot with a show you all know and love. More on that in a few months! SORRY!
Following this, my oldest brother Andrew, sister in law Shira and two nephews Zachary and Spencer came to stay with us! It was so cool and different having the WHOLE house full. It was a great way to kick off the Udin Argentine tour.Â
We had a few days of yucky weather but we still got out and did everything we wanted. We even went on a hike with the boys which was awesome and they killed it! Their last full day, we took them to a beach Ian and I had never been to called âplaya sin vientoâ which means beach without wind, ha imagine that. Really though, NO WIND and just around a corner, our favorite beach was pretty windy. Glad we found it at the end of the summer... Anyway, the kids went kayaking, we laid on the beach and overall had a great time!
Just a few days later my other brother Eric and sister in law Diane, came to stay with us and again, weather wasnât the best so no beach time for us but we still managed to bring them there! Eric, having never left North America was on his first out of continent trip of his life so Ian and I had to make sure this visit was well worth it! We went to awesome restaurants including La Salamandra Pulperia, omg is this place amazing, we went to the beach at night to see the amazing Patagonian stars which was pretty awesome having the beach to ourselves (seen below) and even had them drink fresh water from the earth. With just 2 full days in Bariloche, we had to cram everything in and I think we left them with new amazing memories to last a lifetime!
Next up was my parents staying with us for about 10 days so this visit we knew we could spread a few things out since we had the time. Â We also wanted to go on the 7 lakes drive which Ian and I had already done with Ianâs aunt and cousin, but crazily. (we did it all in one day!)Â
With my parents we took the 5+ hour journey through the 7 lakes and stayed in San Martin de los Andes, an amazingly cute beach town at the end of the drive. Throughout the ride, every single sight was unbelievable. On our way back home to Bariloche, we stopped for lunch in Villa La Angostura right on the water. Â Their entire stay, we had impeccable weather! Sunny, hot and not a cloud in sight. I canât say the same for the previous 3 weeks, sorry! I loved having my entire family here all within a few days of each other and I miss them terribly!
The day after my parents went back to NY, Ian and I flew to Buenos Aires and this place is something else. Though we spent 2 weeks there prior to Bariloche, we still managed to enjoy new adventurous things of this city. Our main reason for going to BA was for Lollapalooza!! 2 days of music, culture and food! What more can you ask for!? We saw a few bands that we had already seen and some new. Twenty One Pilots, Walk the Moon, Alabama Shakes (my fave from the 2 days), Mumford and Sons (Ianâs fave), Of Monsters and Men, Eminem, Florence and the Machine, Noel Ghallagherâs High Flying Birds and more. Â It was so awesome to see these artists in Argentina! The funniest thing to us was hearing the Argentine accents singing the songs we sing back at home.Â
After about a week in BA, we flew to Colombia to spend about 10 days with Ianâs parents, sister and her boyfriend. What a whirlwind of a trip that was! 3 days in Bogota where 2 of those days  I got hit with altitude sickness (this place is 8,000 ft above sea level!) Still an awesome city. Then we flew to Periera which is the coffee region of Colombia. Here we took a tour of a coffee plantation and we were able to see the entire process of growing coffee to then knowing what good and bad coffee tastes like! 1 year ago, if you asked me to have some coffee in general, I would have likely turned you down.Â
Look! Itâs me holding coffee cherries!
We also took a hike in Periera among these awesomely tall wax palm trees and about 1,000 cows just sitting and mooing right as we walked past them. So cool. Our last three days, we went to Cartagena! This was my favorite of the three, despite the heat and humidity of this place! The colors of Cartagena were amazing and reminded me a bit of New Orleans even though Iâve never been and Ianâs parents said it reminded them of Cuba with the colors. Our last day in Colombia/ Cartagena we had no plans so Ianâs dad arranged for us to take a boat out to the Rosario Islands.Â

Suited up, off we go on the boat. After about 45 minutes of driving on the Caribbean Sea, the Skipper Eddie asks us if we want to go snorkeling. UMM, sure... I slowly get the flippers on and the mask with that tube thing on to then take the flippers off, I was a tad nervous. I get in the water and the heavy breathing ensues. After I calm down and ignore the fact than I am in the middle of an enormous body of water, I take Aliâs hand and put my head under the water to look.
Check us out! We are in the middle of the Caribbean Sea!
HOLY SH**!!!!
I assume many people have done this before but excuse me for this being my first time. WOW! What a sight!! This water was clear and from above you see turquoise blue and dark blue but under water is a whole new world (wrong movie). The coral and fish were amazing and so cool and even though we werenât equipped with waterproof cameras, I will never forget what that looked like!Â
What an awesome trip and now back at home in Bariloche among the lakes and mountains, itâs hard to have a bad day.
