The death of Howard and Maria Stark had caught Peggy Carter completely offguard. She was completely certain that it would not have been a car crash that ended their lives.
Howard Stark would know how to fix a break line.
From that day on it had never settled in her chest.
Regardless if it had been an assassination or not (which Peggy would had a suspicion it was) she had things to take care of. She had Howard's...their...legacy to attend to (though while mourning she had taken a short leave after putting the affairs in order) and more importantly Tony Stark. There was also Arno, but that was a completely different matter that she would have to attend to as soon as possible but with a different mindset.
Tony, on the other hand, needed her immediate attention. She had watched him grow into the young man he was now and she felt as if she would have to do something for him, even at a distance if necessary.
Dressed in all black she approached the young man at the funeral when they had a moment, though finding a moment for Tony to be free was like a needle in the haystack but she managed.
