“okay, i need you -- to give me a math problem.” he’s already searching across the littered kitchen island for something to write on, and write with. mostly-empty solo cups clatter to the floor but he comes up with a slightly damp notepad and a black sharpie that he tests quickly across his wrist, leaving a smeared line. finn leans over the counter, elbows planted and chin cupped in his free hand, staring expectantly at audrey, eyes glazed. “make it a hard one -- like google a hard math problem and give it to me. and i’m gonna solve it, and when i get it right you’ll know i’m so fucking sober and it’s gonna blow you away. like fucking magic. you’ll see.”

his head rests against her shoulder, turned to peer up her. sitting next to her stopped being outlandish a long time ago, and being this close was easy, which was something that he could never have anticipated. it was something he never allowed himself to want, either, knowing how public perception was about the Ozera name. it was nice, is all. he felt comforted, but it becomes clear to him that maybe audrey doesn’t feel the same way. that maybe she sees him as only an anchor that is going to take her down with him.
it makes sense. her wanting to go back to the person she used to be when she was the princess in the tower. he thinks of her trapped in the tower because she was strapped by her identity, the expectations that everyone had of her. he knows what that was like, but he never experienced for the degree or length of time that she did. she truly believed in it, and if she was thinking about going back....it really only meant one thing.
his hand finds her, lacing through briefly to mess with her fingers. he thinks through what he needs to say, for once, because he knows his ability to let emotions take over, but he also knows her and if he doesn’t respond properly...it might not end well.. “i don’t.” not that he has a say over what person she wants to be. “i like who you are now.” he pause for a moment, shoulders shrugging. “mistakes make us interesting.”
