An example of what a healthy forest floor should always look like. Leaves are packed with trace minerals that trees draw up from deep in the soil and feed earthworms and beneficial microbes as they decay. In the springtime, leaves soak up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, converting the gas into organic carbon compounds. Come autumn, trees shed their leaves, leaving them to decompose in the soil as they are eaten by microbes. Over time, decaying leaves release carbon back into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and the cycle starts over. If and only if there are still trees around to soak up that carbon dioxide. ・・・ #growninhaiti #decay #organicmatter #perfectcycle #foodforest #agroforestry #selfsustaining #letnaturework #haiti #ayiti #reforestation #preservation #biodiversity #foodforest https://www.instagram.com/p/B9MoFvsl1lB/?igshid=1g1axk388bk69
