With the addition of fresh basil leaves, this Perfect Basil Hummus recipe gives traditional hummus a cool twist. It's a delicious and flavorful spread or dip because the creamy chickpea base is enhanced by the aromatic basil.
Ingredients: 1 can 15 ounces chickpeas, drained and rinsed. 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, packed. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 3 tablespoons tahini. 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. 2 tablespoons water adjust for desired consistency.
Instructions: Put fresh basil, minced garlic, tahini, and fresh lemon juice in a food processor and blend them all together. Pulse until the ingredients are mixed together somewhat. Add the extra-virgin olive oil slowly while the food processor is running until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add the black pepper and salt, and keep mixing until everything is well mixed. Add water slowly while mixing the hummus if it's too thick. Keep doing this until you get the consistency you want. Add more salt, lemon juice, or olive oil if you think it needs it after tasting. Move your basil hummus to a serving bowl once it is smooth and tastes great. For an extra burst of flavor and a touch of class, add a drizzle of olive oil and some fresh basil leaves on top. You can dip fresh vegetables, pita bread, or crackers in your Perfect Basil Hummus.
