his anger was reaching new levels with every passing hour. newborns cowered from his wrath during their training sessions, clearly afraid to be on the receiving end. the only comfort was brought by maria who had sworn, so sweetly, to watch over the sister he had nearly forgotten during her transformation. it gave him a chance to continue working with their latest group, though did not do much to free his mind of worry. without meaning to, jasper could feel the climate around him change as his own emotions were forced out--the newborns were beginning to feel his anger, his anxiety. six years had not been quiet enough to master it.
“enough!” the malice in his voice brought many of them to attention, some even moving away from him as he pulled two of them from each other, tossing them effortless across the room. “take a break. and i had best not hear any of y’all squabblin’ again.” he turned sharply on his heel, only to be met by maria. her own excitement and concern filled the air around him as she placed hands on his chest.
lucy and nettie watched over the newborns while jasper sat by johanna’s side, waiting. she had gotten older, but now, like him, she would be forever frozen in time. his red eyes were clenched tightly shut and he tries to yank memories of his human life from his mind -- their mother’s face, names of their siblings (brothers, right?). in truth he had forgotten johanna’s name until he had seen her and felt the fear radiating from her because of the attack--her own human emotions seemed to pull out memories of his own past life.
he straightened as he felt her begin to come to, something he had become all too-familiar with from the number of newborns he had seen. a rare show of concern made it way across his face, and felt maria still lingering behind him, seemingly as anxious as he was.
