maymie is the middle kid of a rich family who are strongly anti-magic, and have a goal to eradicate all magical creatures from the planet - for which they contracted with a demon to give them the abilities to do so. her siblings are smarter and better so she feels very left behind and has a huge inferiority complex, is horribly anxious and has major insecurities abt her worth.

then she meets joey who is a half-wizard and has issues around loneliness and self worth and self identity (he's strong as a wizard, but he represses the magic because as a kid they got out of control and ppl were scared of him and called him names and shit and even tho magic is convenient, ppl are so quick to judge what they cant understand (humans and wizards alike)

maymie decides shes gonna kill him bc wizards are the most powerful of magical creatures and she'd definitely push ahead of her siblings w just this, while joey is like suicidal and sick of being alive so he decides to just hang out w her and let it happen - he knows what she's doing and who she is and she knows that he knows, but they don't really mention it outright

they end up talking too much during their 'haha pretense' stage and exposing vulnerabilities so now they're in a weird enemies w benefits/sex as therapy 'im gonna kill you but ur also the only person i feel real with' relationship. she's genuinely trying to kill him but her skills are lacking and she doesnt have it in her to kill someone she's so personal with, but she's trying anyway. he's just in it for the ride and going along with her whims because well, he has nothing better to do

i'd suggest giving liar game another try, it really does get so good, i think you'd like it! the 'final showdown' feels SO lawlight it's almost funny

tomodachi game is somewhat similar but has a relatively more unrealistic scenario, but the characters are kind of insane so i like it

alice in borderland has a manga and an anime but i'd rec the drama! it's on netflix (the manga is also good but the anime sucked, don't watch that)

kakegurui has slightly different vibes from all of these but it's also high stakes and has pretty girls

if you like slice of life comedy with high stakes, kaguya-sama is basically high school het lawlight who are really horny for each other (but also, completely different vibes because it's more funny than suspenseful so maybe not?)

pretty sure you've heard of squid game and it's not The Best in my opinion (i'd give it like a 6/10) but it was decent enough. no psychological warfare tho, unlike all the ones above

mirai nikki is objectively kinda bad lol but it was enjoyable while i was watching (in part because it was so weird) that i'd throw it out there just cause. also it has yuno gasai who is like the modern day poster girl for yanderes so i guess worth a watch? maybe??
