While I’m on my shit, I have another interesting tony stan thing.
So EG made a lot of Steve and Peggy stans mad for, in their opinion, silencing Peggy. Whether or not I agree, I think it’s great that so many people in this part of fandom feel so passionately about the voice of female characters.
And then on the other hand you have pepper, who doesn’t have much of a fan base that I’ve seen, but what she does is mostly tony stans. And has anyone heard a peep about Pepper’s character in EG?
What did pepper do in EG? She was an entirely absent mother to Morgan. She was solely there to act as a man’s conscience. She fought a bit in that one scene, and was interested in...composting.
Despite having a literal voice and more screentime than Peggy, she had nothing to say that wasn’t just being a mouthpiece for Tony. Peggy was Director, an absolute boss, and even though she didn’t speak, we had numerous visual clues as to what she was feeling, what she longed for, how ambitious she was, and what motivated her. Pepper was Tony’s wife. That’s it. Not even Morgan’s mother.
And where’s the outcry for her character? Literally no one seems to care that she went from CEO to nameless woman that makes hero husband do the right thing. Especially not tony stans. But we know how much tony stans care about women 🙃
Outside of the tony fandom, though, I noticed another similarity to the treatment of Steve vs Tony. Whenever articles dissect the problematic areas of EG, they use Steve instead of the Nazi-propaganda-spouting guy that gets an entire second movie mourning him, after he gets a heroes funeral. And here we have a woman that solely exists to be Tony’s wife. She has more screentime and somehow, Peggy had more autonomy in that scene from the 70’s than Pepper did the entire movie.
But I guess it’s okay because she was in that gratuitous shot of all the women lol
