Todd Hido
After a recent PEP160 seminar, I began to develop the idea of experimenting with the architecture in Falmouth and the surrounding areas. As the architecture is bland and not particularly distinct, I began thinking about different factors that could change the way the architecture looks and feels in my images. Â
Todd Hido is an incredible photographer who makes the perhaps unaesthetically pleasing into pieces of art that are a joy to look at. The way he uses shutter speed, light temperatures and weather conditions adds depth to his images. The image featured above is simply titled ‘#2027-B’ which I assume is the number of the house in the image. This level of anonymity makes each picture stand out in its own right. The mystery of not knowing about the house or even the basic fact of where it is could be something I could adapt and apply to my own work.Â
Other photographers who produce work in a similar style include; Patrick Joust, occasionally Gregory Crewdson, and Zac Riviello of Press & Ed 3rd year! All whose work is interesting and inspiring for me to look at.Â
I plan to explore the areas surrounding the campus and hopefully capture exciting shots full of mystery, combined with some ‘dated’ architectural styles such as brutalist architecture which dominated from the 1950s to the mid-1970s.Â
