Have you ever considered, pray, considered, a Dom!Warriors x a page! Reader whom acts as Warriorsโ assistant and basically servant throughout the duration of the war? I literally canโt remember the name of the story to save my fucking life but I remember when I was a kid I read a story in this fairytale anthology where a girl disguises herself as a page boy to follow her lover to war and her lover knows itโs her but he treats her cruelly and makes her do a bunch of dumb and impossible tasks essentially to test her love for him (I think??? I feel like I also could have just fucking all that up). But (if youโre interested) how do you think that kind of dynamic would turn out? I cannot help but feel like Warriors, having gained so much responsibility and attention literally overnight, would probably have felt overwhelmed to the point of emotional mood swings. I mean he seems like a career-driven sort of Link, but no one really goes to work and then finds out randomly that hey, youโre the hero and it turns out this whole war is all about you, people are dying because of you, lives are being put in turmoil because of you, also if you donโt win then your whole country will be destroyed and it will be all your fault, ALSO btw your personal/social life is essentially doomed either way bcuz now youโre essentially a fate-anointed celebrity and going to be surrounded by fake ass rich people who A) are either out to get you, B) are out to get WITH you, or C) some weird mixture of the 2 and EVERY.SINGLE. THING. You do or say will essentially be monitored by the Hyrulean paparazzi(or some other equivalent) and the gods alike. Like, I feel like a lot of people tend to forget that for Wars, the moment he picked up the master sword his life was really no longer just his own and was instead forfeit to the people around him, to an even bigger degree compared to most of the other heroes. Like damn, if I was him Iโd be pissed tf off like all the time. Constantly working and also constantly being monitored. That boy HAS to have some control and anger/stress issues. And really, who else better for him to take it out on than you, this basically random person they just basically threw at him and were like โhey you also get this sick live-in intern and punching bag have fun :)โ. At first heโs relatively tolerant of you (if being tense and pretending you donโt exist as much as possible is considered tolerant which for this version of Wars, I think is). But as time goes on and more and more responsibility falls to him, he has to learn to rely on you and trust you enough to actually do some of the more difficult and intimate work youโre meant to be doing like delivering his mail, making sure his gears in top shape, casually going through his things on a daily basis. Look, he doesnโt want to be here and neither do you, he KNOWS that, but that doesnโt mean he has to like it. Though, as he begins to acclimate to the reality of the situation and the emotions pile up, he just canโt stop himself from being just a little bit cruel to you. Making condescending comments, pushing you around verbally and physically, giving you extra tasks that are purely given for the purpose of making you just as miserable as he is, when he allows himself to feel it. And he doesnโt want to acknowledge it, but it DOES feel nice (shamefully he knows) to have a constant to keep him grounded. someone around to be his personal little punching bag. It doesnโt hurt that you also happen to not be, well, a TOTAL eyesore. Thereโs other soldiers in the ranks that he could replace you with that would probably be much better for the position that also happen to be less cute, but itโs just not the same. Heโs too used to you now. Definitely not because of anything else. Nope. Because reading into it is just gonna lead to even more messy mess heโs not yet ready to deal with. Nuh uh.
bruh this ended up not having any smut. my bad. i accidentally gave it plot, and smut would probably come later RIP
mmmm, mixed feelings on this tbh. it's just a conflict on how i feel like "The Hero" would act, and how a regular man in his position would act (how you basically described him)
but we also know that being The Hero doesn't automatically make you the Best Person to Ever Exist y'know? in hyrule warriors, Link actually almost dies because he gets too arrogant with the master sword. (that's like the only notable 'flaw' i think he's ever across the games. unless you want to count twi ogling telma's boobs for a few seconds)
technicalities wise -> based off of the later parts, i'm guessing they're not lovers? just an actual page boy/squire that was given to him as an assistant. but also a girl, disguised as a page boy, maybe to try and help out with the war effort how she can. does he know you're a girl? LMAO what if it's a mulan situation where he gets the hots for you, and then is so disappointed when he finds out you're a gal
ANYWHO! it's kind of giving secretary AU if you've read my asks about that. except instead of a modern au with ceo!time, it's Warriors during the actual war
except there's nothing too positive happening relationship wise LOL. i'm interested in how reader is throughout the situation tho. are you biting back to his obviously cruel behvaior? calling him out on it? but what good is that gonna do? he could just replace you easily
or are you just silently taking it, ten seconds away from a mental breakdown whenever he looks in your general direction. because he just can't give you a break. and try as you might, every time you think you've done something well, he moves the goal posts
you can't read his damn mind. why is he treating you like an absolute piece of shit? does he literally just need you to be a punching bag? you didn't really sign up for this. does he think the work you're doing is good or not? does he really want you here? if you want me here, can you stop being so condescending for five seconds?
you eventually reach a breaking point. maybe you're quiet when it happens, speaking in a meek-ish tone and doing your best to not let your voice tremble. or perhaps it's a burst of anger and annoyance, not being able to handle his bullshit anymore.
"would you rather a different squire come attend to your needs?"
warriors is a bit taken aback at first. because of course not, he doesn't want someone else. yes, you're not good and there are better people in his mind. but he does want you for reasons that he's not saying to anyone, much less himself. but it's because of that he dismisses your question with a roll of his eyes
"no need." he looks away from you mildly annoyed, but also a little pissed off at the idea. "that's too much hassle to deal with. i can't be bothered when you could just do a better job."
you might not be the best at the job in the whole military, but that doesn't mean you aren't good. if the squires were ranked, you were sure that you'd be amongst the best. but clearly he needed the best and not one of the best.
and so silently, you arrange for your station to be replaced with another. everyone's winning in this situation. you're able to get the fuck out of here (hooray!); the captain gets a more capable squire (good for him!); and the new squire gets to serve under The Hero (shiny resume now, but good luck)
next week rolls around, and who the fuck is in his tent? who the fuck are you? ok yeah, his mail is in better order now, and his armor is polished to his liking, and his sword is clean and sharp, but what the fuck happened to my squire?
