Man Allegedly Fired Shots at Witness
A Penitas man is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend and firing shots at a witness. The judge set Guadalupe Zarate's bond at $100,000. That was for the alleged attack on the boyfriend. He'll likely face more charges for firing shots at the witness.
Man Charged in Arson Case
A man accused of setting fire to a Penitas adult day care center was officially charged. Investigators say Moishies Martell was a disgruntled ex-employee. They tell us they found evidence at his home linking him to the arson.
Two Hidalgo Co. Men Sentenced for Straw Purchasing
Randy Aguilar of McAllen and Miguel Mejia of Penitas were sentenced for making false statements when buying firearms, which is also known as straw purchasing.
Aguilar was sentenced to 46 months in prison. He admitted to buying 38 firearms. Mejia, who confessed to buying 14 firearms, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Most of the weapons purchased were AK-47s and other highly-trafficked firearms.
