Peekskill Paramount Pale Ale - Very good beer. Not an absolute standout like some of the offerings from Suarez, Sloop or Hudson Valley, but something nice to slip on from time to to time.

Sloop Green Islands and Peekskill Tryed and True - Made a trip to Food & Fire for the first time in a while. Iâd been watching their BeerMenus page looking for Sloop IPAs to show up and once there was a Peekskill beer too we couldnât pass it up. Â Both beers were good, above average for sure, but would not justify a special trip on their own in the future. Â They did highlight the need to explore the Hudson Valley beer scene more in 2017.
Food was fine. I had a brisket BLT special which was just ok. Would have been better as just a brisket sandwich or just a BLT. Â Fries and cornbread were good.Â

Peekskill is the New Nyack
Peekskill is the New Nyack
Remember how Andre and I rode to Peekskill last fall along both the South and North County Trails in Westchester?
We did itagain this past Saturday. The two of us had a free day because weâre both kind of over softball, and I insisted that we ride because I needed a break from life. My new counselor agreed that it would be best that I get out and do fun stuff, such as play softball and ride myâŚ

One of the beers of the summer has been JĂ N Olympic White Lagrrr! by the Astoria, Queensâbrewery Singlecut. As you can tell from the name, itâs a white lager, something you donât see very often.
When we went to Peekskill on Sunday, I had another white lager at the Peekskill Brewery that was made with the same hops that âpowerâ their sour beers, most notably their Simple Sour and The Aristocrats.
As you can tell, itâs white! Or at least itâs pretty light. The Styriana was a pretty solid beer, which scores really high with Beer Advocate reviewers.
This reminded me of a beer I had on the other side of the country at the Angel City Brewery in Los Angeles. It was the White Nite stout. Again, as the name implies, itâs a white stout.
Most white beers, or witbiers are made with wheat, which makes for a light yet tart flavor found in a lot of summer beers. But the Angel City stout does not taste like a wheat beer, it tastes like a stout. Beer drinkers more knowledgeable than I note flavors ordinarily found in stouts: coffee, chocolate, and earth.
Casual beer drinkers will certainly note flavor first and associate color with that flavor. How many times have you heard someone ask a bartender for a âlight beer?â Whatâs different about these beers is that despite their light color, their flavor is quite strong.
Unless this goes to the logical extreme of brewers producing clear beer, Iâm all for watching these independent breweries producing some novel brews.
