I generally don’t like to taint my blog with too much political stuff but alas, Canberra is unwilling to oblige my wishes by continuing being entirely useless. Regardless, because the plebiscite on gay marriage was voted down by the senate twice or something, it doesn’t fall under the Commonwealth Elections Act so it’s voluntary (like the US election) and run by the ABS but there’s no regulations on truth in advertising, obligation to follow through, etc. I don’t really agree with it on principle but this is the hill of “election promises” that they want to die on so there isn’t much else to say. This entire thing is mainly for young people as we’re the demographic least likely to be registered already and most likely to vote “yes”.
Anyway, I’ve linked a news report that contains all the links. The actual plebiscite will be a postal vote and you fill in a form they send you by mail after you ask them to and you just pick “yes” or “no”. Please enrol to vote/update your details by the 24th of August, 2017. The MPs aren’t bound by the results but getting an overwhelming “let’s not be cunts” will definitely help.
