John speaks to his kids in Shelta first, since that’s what his mother (and later Polly) did to teach them their native tongue. Martha didn’t speak it as fluently, but John did his best to teach her. Esme uses it more with the kids than with him to make sure they have some connection to a culture outside of their Blinder father’s.

TIME FOR HEADCANONS ABOUT PAUL BEING A DAD which i meant to write on sunday and then forgot

paul works with kids on a daily basis because of his job as a teacher, so being a dad doesn’t really overwhelm him like it does for a lot of first-time parents

he must document every single milestone in percy and estelle’s lives. he must. 

percy and estelle are both equally his children in his mind, before estelle was born, paul’s answer when asked if he had kids was always yes

if percy ever called him dad he WOULD ugly sob, but in, like, a cool way

everyone gets a lunchbox

5000000 pictures of his family on his desk at work because he loves them so much

overprotective? hell yea

when estelle is older, paul suggests she picks up karate and fencing because self defense and also fencing literally saved paul’s life

paul, sally, and percy have a lot of conversations about how much they’re going to tell estelle about percy being a demigod, etc. 

holidays are a huge deal mostly because it’s a time for family to be together

paul’s parents are always there to come and babysit estelle if paul and sally ever need a break or some help

PANATHENAEA & DIONYSIA

the two biggest festivals of new athens are the panathenaea and the dionysia. the panathenaea is celebrated at the end of the summer / beginning of the fall, right when students come back for the fall semester, and the dionysia is celebrated as a spring fling style party, with plays and dances brightening the city and generally celebrating the end of the winter. they don’t follow the rules of the original ceremonies, and are more updated for modern times, but they’re two of the biggest events in the city every year. 

I wanna start with headcanons that I've made concrete (though all of them need some broad strokes and some tweaking)

Buzz's relatively the youngest Phobos general (roughly 21-22 years old, Aquarella's 2nd youngest, being 24-25) and relatively inexperienced (sure, he memorized what train controls to steer and what buttons to press, but Phobos train and occasionally guarding the nearest secret storage, and still has instruction paper somewhere) * speaking of age stuff, Buzz's birthday date (minus year) is March 14th

Buzz used to be a college dropout, because he lost interest in STEM (his mom persuaded him to take such education) and wanted to be either entomologist or bug-type pokekeeper. His late education was rough, in terms of being mocked for being interested in bug types and bearing a bug aesthetic (though, Buzz managed to find some friends that he felt safe) * while in college phase, Buzz *almost* got a gf, both being bug-like mindset, but both were playdating and had to part due to aforementioned dropout. The "gf" nowadays came out as sapphic (leaning towards being a lesbain), and she still has nostalgia about Buzz. (If these 2 met again, Buzz would accept her, he's cool about it)

3. While Buzz's into granola quirky girls and gals who also have bug fixation, he also kinda likes guys that look like John Lennon. In general romantic stuff, either way, he's very shy and his difficulty saying his affection directly/outloud.

4. Unlike other generals in PB, Buzz usually eats less, because he mostly thinks he's a bug (not in furry/insectoid, nor in otherkin/therian and not in roleplaying ways, but not a delusion either, aka pure bug mindset and fixation), and he's convinced he's an imago (despite only bugs I know that eat less are butterflies and moths). * he'd opportunistically eat something like apples or oran berries, or get some bread from hideout. However, If he's hungry for 3 or more hours, he becomes a ravenous eater, and will proceed to munch huge quantity of meals (or one large meal) and then go to have a nap.

5. Buzz tends to warp himself up in blanket or his huge scarf, like a cacoon, because he believes he'll hatch into something better tomorrow (shed out the negative emotions and fatigue)

6. General Buzz's real name (or rather a deadname) is Benjamin (or Ben). He changed his name to fit his bug motive 7. Buzz's biggest flaw is he's easily persuaded into something (it was severe when he was a teen) and only finds it later. Nowadays, General Buzz has got some spine and mild trust issues, the flaw persists, but it's now a bit harder to sway him. 8. Buzz is blond guy with darker green eyes (and slightly freckles that aren't visible when helmet is on)

Some General Buzz skills aside from controlling the Phobos Train:

He can climb on ceilings, as his shoes and gloves have suckers on them. He uses that maneuver when it comes to spying SOL. Ignore his large scarf he warps around to ensure no one pulls it and dangles it.

2. Buzz's a good runner, and 2nd fastest Phobos Battalion general (1st being Avery, but General Avery got the status via his jetboots, making Buzz the fastest "on natural")

3. Elaborating on physical training, Buzz can leap (like a frog, but at a larger distance), which can help during spying or combating a SOL agent.

Tics/habits:

As canon goes, General Buzz tends to say "bzzt!" (buzzing) at the beginning or the end of sentence (big shocker), by my fanon extension, that habit is semi-involuntary, like a soft of vocal stim. The stim extends when Buzz's nervous or overstimulated. He begins to loudly ear-piercing buzzing when * He's very mad (like a cat hissing) * He's in moderate-to-severe physical pain * during an overstimulating event.

2. Aside from the buzzing, the General often fidgets something when bored or tired. It manifests in rubbing an index finger against a thumb (he can't snap fingers, however), wiggling his helmet antennae or holding a small object like a pebble or pokeball. 3. Buzz has fixations bug and bug types in general (Hello, Captain Obvious), which is main reason he looks like one. He started from catching bugs (and than releasing them) to defending them, like If they were humans (which is fair, all types deserve respect), because back in his kindergarden days, many peers seen pokemon like spinarak or nincada as expendable toys, rather than living beings, and Buzz was one of few kids in there who had compassion towards bug type pokemon. (to add, his hair antennae is a coincidence)

Pokemon on hand:

Ninjask, one and only static pokemon Buzz has, since the middle school (when it was a nincada). It flies at high speeds and buzzes (just like its trainer), and serves as a companion and partner-in-crime. General Buzz taught it to loudly use bug buzz and extreme speed at the targets.

Relatives and former friends:

Mariah (mother, she's blonde with dark green eyes, a gardener)

Blossom (Buzz's younger sister, she's 14-15, is also rusty blonde girl with green eyes, who likes grass type pokemon and plants in general)

Jeremy (father, modest business worker with straight black hair and brown eyes)

Jack (former friend, dark skinned collegemate guy with dark hair and blue eyes)

Ciel ( former friend, fairr skinned collegemate girl with fair greenish hair and with orange eyes and opaque glasses)

Trizzie/Lizzie ( former friend he was playdating with, a (later sapphic) girl with bug quirks and has dark hair)
