Immigrant Pavement Ant (Tetramorium immigrans) in my backyard last week. This scrambling scene that I uncovered beneath a rock in our garden is a disturbed Ant nursery. Young Ants don't look like the Ants we commonly see on the surface (which are all Adults). Instead, young Ants (Larvae) are the pale legless things you can see being picked up and escorted away by worker ants in this picture. Although Butterflies are the most common demonstration of metamorphosis, most Insect species transform from Larvae that look very different from their Adult forms. . . . . . . . #nature #ontario #tetramorium #tetramoriumimmagrans #pavementants #ants #antscanada #ants๐ #antlarvae #antnest #antscolony #insects_of_our_world #gardenant #garden_explorers #backyardgarden #thelittlethingsthatruntheworld #blognorfolk #norfolkwild (at Simcoe, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPye20hAYfv/?utm_medium=tumblr
