The sun is setting on what he thinks is the fifth -- sixth? -- day since the raid on the hotel, but Sai doesn’t notice the vivid rainbows colors painting the sky. He’s too tired, and not just physically: his heart is as heavy as his limbs seem, every part of him feeling like it weighs a ton or several after the week he’s had.
There’d been injuries, serious ones that had him frantic with worry that he wouldn’t be able to save everyone. He’d never had anyone die in his care, not a single person, and he refused to let this be the first time, especially when it had been a bunch of asshole, scum-of-the-earth humans who’d let their baser instincts turn them wild. His determination to save everyone meant he’d been working on next to no sleep for almost seven days straight, and it’s starting to catch up with him. He’s dead on his feet in every way that counts; he’s breathing and walking and can formulate sentences when required, but he can’t be entirely sure what he’s done or said, eaten or drank since getting to the supply store other than work.
Now that things have settled, his anxiety over the thought of losing his patients included, Sai is taking the time to just... catch up. He knows that things are wrong, very, very wrong but he doesn’t have any concept of how much so except for a vague awareness that a good number of their group is gone. What exactly happened and who exactly they’d lost isn’t clear to him...
...but he realizes that Patty isn’t among them when his eyes land on her, and the relief that floods is chest almost knocks him over.
“ O oe o le mea sili ona matagofie na ou vaai i ai i se taimi. “
He approaches her and cups her face in his hands, as much to confirm she’s real as to search her for any signs of injury.
“ You alright, meli ? “
