Decembers are always rough for Patrick. It's the month when he lost his unborn sibling and, soon after, his mother. It's the month when his wife left and began the divorce process. It's the month when his daughter was taken away from him. This is a month of misery...and the bright, warm atmosphere only adds salt to the wound.
Walking down some random street, Patrick sets out to find an unfamiliar place that he can get lost in- at least, as lost one can be with a broom and a magic wand. Families surround the lonely man, taunting him with their joyful laughter. Their cheer feels like a weight, making it harder for him to move forward. Eventually, he gives up on walking and goes to sit over at a bench.
However, Patrick is faced with an inconvenience- all the spots are filled except for one, right next to someone else who he can't recognize at the moment. It's hard to tell who they are when they aren't even looking his way.
Looks like that isn't going to be a problem for long.
"Excuse me...is it alright if I take a seat next to you?"
