Hard to Trust ch. 18
I know everyone’s holiday wish is for more “Hard to Trust” so I’m trying to get one out a week to fulfill everyone’s wishes! :)
Thanks to @pathybo for another great chapter. Enjoy!
On your first morning of training, Four gathered all of the initiates together while he and Eric explained all the new rules of Dauntless. You didn't agree with most of them, but there was nothing you could do about it. Four introduced you as their instructor. “Finally something good to look at.” A smart mouth from candor said. Peter was his name.
You also noticed a tall blond guy named Edward looking at you. But you stayed put, your instructor mode on. Eric was being Eric; harsh, rude and insensitive to them. You kept asking yourself how could he be so cruel with them and so loving with you, but you realized he was harsh on you too and that's what made you fall for him so hard. The first day went well. All the initiates trying their best not to fail. On the second day of training you and Four were alone in the training room. After Four took them for a run you were waiting by the punch bags to start your part of training. All the initiates were punching the bags and you were looking if any of them needed any help. You noticed Four helping your sister who now was called Tris, and you went to help another initiate with trouble. The guy seemed pleased with your help and thanked you, you nodded and continued passing by them when Peter asked for your help. “Hey, Y/N, can you help me please? I need to know if my fighting stance is right.” He said. You came to where he was and started to help. He asked you to fight him and you looked at Four. He just winked at you amused about what you would do to Peter. You started to show him some moves and he was following you closely. Every move you made he mirrored, a few of the other initiates stopped to watch you teach him, until he caught you by surprise and you fell down, he straddle you and was being a little handsy with you. One of his hands was on your butt while the other defended himself from your attacks. Out of the sudden he flew over the ring and you were surprised by a very enraged Eric on top of Peter. “You have to respect your instructors, initiate.” He was fuming over Peter, his jaw was clenched and his cheeks were trembling in anger. “You will show some respect Now you owe her an apology. Are we clear?” He said letting Peter go. “Yes sir.” Peter answered. “I'm sorry, Y/N, I was out of line.” All initiates were frightened by the ruthless leader. He then came close to you. “Are you ok? Did he hurt you?” He asked you. “I'm fine, Eric.” You said. Noticing all the initiates eyes on you, he then left. Peter didn't try any cute attempts with you anymore. Eric was showing up unannounced every day, in the morning and in the afternoon and on fighting days. One day he was over seeing the training and he stopped where two girls were fighting. One of them was really petite, Christina, and the other, Molly was a big girl. She was beating up the little one pretty easily and the little one asked her to stop the beating. Eric was not pleased, he told everybody to take a break and lead them towards the chasm, you were following to see what he was up to, he then pushed the girl from the chasm railing and you couldn't believe what you were seeing. You came closer, passing by all initiates and kept staring at him and when he yelled “time” you were the one who pulled the girl from falling. She held on you and cried. You were burning him with your eyes. As soon as he left you followed. Tris came by to help Christina and the other initiates surrounded her. “I can't believe she's with him, she's so nice and he's an asshole.” Christina said. “What are you talking about?” Tris asked. “Y/N and Eric, they're together, they're a couple.” She said. “No way.” Peter said. “Now it makes sense why he jumped on me that day on the ring.” They were not supposed to know, but somehow they did.
You followed Eric to his office because you didn't want to scream in the hallways. He entered his office and closed the door. You opened, entered then slammed the door. “What the hell were you thinking? She could fall! Are you insane? You yelled at him. “Dauntless never give up, they have to learn how to live under pressure. They can't give up at the first sign of difficulty.” He said angrily. “You're unbelievable, why.. you know what? I don't care.” You then left his office and went to the cafeteria to eat and try to calm your head. All the initiates were already there and Four came and sat with you. “I heard about what happened. You took a stand for them, they love you.” He said to you. “It's not about that, Four, what Eric did was cruel. I was worried about the girl. He drives me so insane sometimes ughhhh.” You were still mad. “Calm down, Y/N. I still can't believe you married the guy.” He said laughing at you. You both ended up laughing as you talked about your harsh cruel husband. After dinner you went home but Eric wasn't there yet. You just took a shower and went to bed. You woke up around midnight with the bang of your door closing and you knew he was still mad. He came to the bedroom without saying a word and went to take a shower. You waited for him because he woke you up, so you couldn't go back to sleep right away. He came back and laid down with a distinguished smell of scotch. “If you wanted to go out for a drink you should at least have invited me.” You provoked him. “Why would I like to have a drink with you when your clearly defying me in front of the initiates?” He was still so mad. “If I had defied you, I would have taken the girl from the chasm before your ridiculous time had finished. I didn't say a word in front of them, I talked to you out of their sight.” You argued back. “You're so annoying sometimes.” He said. “I am annoying? Me? Oh please Mr. Leader, if I'm so annoying why did you marry me? And by the way you did marry me, so don't go to the bar by yourself without telling me or taking me with you or you will be divorced very soon.” You said turning your back to him and turning the lights out. When you woke up the next day, his arms were curled around you and his face snuggled in your neck. You moved trying to get out of bed but he held you down and turned you so now you were facing him. He kissed the tip of your nose, your eyelids and your lips. “Don't you ever go to sleep mad at me again. Never again, are we clear?” He was being harsh but with a soft voice. “Yes, sir, and that was all your fault.” You said back laughing. He smirked at you and released you from his grip. “Good girl.” He said when you were getting up.
You had breakfast with Four, Alicia and Chris. You were all having a good time, then it was time for you to say your goodbyes to your friends and went to the training room with Four. You started your training with running 20 laps around the room. Four was with the initiates while you arranged the knives for the next training. After you finished arranging the room, Eric came to you and you two were talking when the initiates came back. All of them were set in front of a target. You were helping the first guy from the right when you heard Eric and an initiate talking. Eric was criticizing the guys’s ability of throwing knives and he told the guy to go get the knives on the floor. It all escalated so fast. The next thing you knew, your sister Tris was talking back to Eric, and you knew it was not going to end well. “Then it should be easy for you to take his place.” Eric said with a nasty smirk on his face. You were afraid for your sister, and most of all because he was having Four throw the knives at her. You had already noticed she had feelings for him. She ended up with a split in her ear and when everybody left you went to check on her. “You cut me.” She was saying to Four. You stepped in and was trying to take a look at her ear. “You have to keep your mouth shut in some occasions, you can't just talk back to a Dauntless leader and go unpunished. You don't know that but I was punished on my first day here just for defending myself.” You said to her. “Why didn't you step up for me, why didn't you helped me? Just because he's your boyfriend?” She asked. “Tris, I can't go against a leader’s order. I got in trouble yesterday just for helping Christina up from the chasm railing! We can't be disrespectful towards our superiors, and he’s not my boyfriend.” You were arguing back. “Don't you dare deny it, Y/N, everybody knows you and him are together. Why didn't you tell me? I'm your sister.” She said. “Nobody is supposed to know because it can compromise training. The initiates have to respect us as trainers and instructors, not as leader's spouses.” You said. “Spouse?” She was looking at you intrigued. “Yes, Tris, he's my husband, not my boyfriend. We got married a few weeks ago.” You finally told her. “Does mom and dad know?” She asked. “Yes, they came to the ceremony but they weren't allowed to tell you and Caleb. I'm so sorry, hon.” You said hugging her. She hugged you back tight. “You're married, You're married.” She said smiling and seeming happy. “Why didn't you chose someone nicer, like Jordan maybe? You deserve someone better than Eric.” “He's not a bad person, Tris. He makes me happy and I love him, but he's not easy. So please don't talk back to him anymore, I'm sure I will have to answer for that later. Don't make my life a living hell.” You said laughing and you went to the cafeteria together. Four stayed there laughing at both of you. Later that night you came home to a very pissed husband. He was pacing around the living room just waiting for you so he could vent. “She's so annoying, talking back to me. A STIFF, a fucking stiff talking back to me.” He said. He was really pissed. “Careful, I was a stiff once, remember?” You pointed out. “But you were never like this, you were the most Dauntless stiff I've ever met. And why did you stick around after, why do you care?” He was loosing it. “Eric, she was always a brat, a spoiled little girl. She is a handful but she's still my sister. I had to make sure she was ok.” You said. Then you noticed the look in his eyes, they looked like betrayal, like hurt. “She's what? I can't believe that. She's your sister? And you hid that from me? Why?” He was getting ever more pissed. “You didn't know? Don't the leaders have all the files on the initiates? You had one on me, I was sure you knew. I never meant to keep anything from you, I was sure you knew it.” You said back. “Our files have restricted information until the end of initiation. Don't you remember I didn't know who you were until I met your mom on visiting day?” He seemed to be calming down and moved to sit on the couch. You sat beside him. “Babe, I'm so sorry. I never meant to keep things from you. I was sure you knew it.” You said coming closer to him and placing your head on his shoulder. He just held you and sighed profoundly. “As much as I love you, you know I have to take action on this tomorrow. I can't let her be disrespectful without consequences.” He said lowly. “I know, I trust you. By the way, they know about us. She told me all the initiates know, so I think there's no point in hiding us anymore. Let’s take a shower and have dinner like a real couple does, ok?” You said. He agreed with you and took you to shower and something else. You couldn't have enough of this man, you couldn't imagine how life was supposed to be without him. Later that night both of you entered the cafeteria holding hands and sat together to have dinner. All Dauntless was staring at you.
