About the Position:
The initial cut-off for referral consideration will now be Monday, October 17, 2016; applications received by this date will have the first opportunity for review. Applications received after this date will be given consideration on a bi-weekly basis through the closing date of announcement based on selecting official need.
Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. Click here for more information on Pathways program participation. The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as a Civil Engineer GS-0810-11. Interns will be assigned to one or more higher graded specialists who will assign tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation, in a real world work environment.
This opportunity follows a standard promotional path:
Internship at the GS-03 or GS-04 levels are typically undergraduate degree seeking students while GS-05 or GS-07 levels are typically graduate degree seeking students.
After completion of Internship requirements, conversion to the entry-level for the target occupation. Entry level for Civil Engineer positions are generally at the GS-0810-05/07 or 09. The actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors.
The entry-level position will have a target full performance level of GS-11. Progression from the entry-level to the full performance level for this occupation will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion. Promotions may be considered after a year at each grade level, but are not guaranteed to occur on a specific time schedule.

As an intern, you will be assigned to a senior specialist or group of specialists. You will be assigned tasks designed to familiarize you with different aspects of the occupation. Tasks will vary depending on the senior specialist's current workload, but may include the following:
Researching design specifications for civil engineering projects
performing basic computations for dimensions, quantities, cost estimates
Locating civil engineering features on maps and drawings
Reviewing specifications

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this internship is a current Civil Engineering student with a 3.0 GPA or higher with at least 24 semester hours in a Civil Engineering major field of study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-03, students must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study. One full academic year is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent one year of full-time study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study, or have an associate's degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-05, students must have completed four full academic years of post high school study leading to a Bachelors or equivalent degree. Four full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent four years of full-time study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-07, students must have completed one full academic year of graduate level education OR students must have eligibility under Superior Academic Achievement in addition to a Bachelors degree. This internship prepares students for conversion to the Civil Engineer (0810) occupation. DCMA PATHWAYS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: The DCMA Pathways Internship Program is a streamlined program. Meet agency-specific requirements as specific in the Participant's Agreement, and Perform their job successfully. Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance.
In addition, students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement.
Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.
