It has been a while since I posted something about the 3D work. I’ve been rather busy with work and other stuff, but I’ve made some slow progress with the fur. It took me a while to get the hang of it - as in; that I feel in control of what I’m doing. But I’m satisfied with the fur so far - at least for a first demo version. I have the following layers: down, awn, guard hairs, long guard hairs, very short fur (face, paws) and the whiskers. I still have to add some proper colour + hair reflection and maybe add some hair dynamics (gravity and/or wind) and then render it.
However...damn this is heavy on my computer. I’m using Blender’s ‘old’ particle system (just to have tried it) and it can take minutes to change from one layer to another or to look at the render preview. I’ve a heavy duty gaming laptop, but I seem to have ran into the limits of the system and I really need to train my patience.
Also - the details that I projected onto the simple mesh through normal mapping got lost. The fur sticks to the simple mesh and not to the detail illusion layer (which is the normal map). So I will have to take this into accoutn when modelling a demo v2.
Hey there, you know more about Blender than me and I was hoping you'd be able to help me with something. How would one go about exporting a particle system with a mesh, because I cant seem to do it right.
Hi, luisfrost51. I can try :)
1. Copy the LAST script on this webpage: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/4956/convert-particle-system-to-animated-meshes?answertab=active#tab-top
It's the script below the poster saying, "Here's a modified version for 2.8 that keys visibility as scale and does all particle systems on the emitter object." Make sure to scroll down and copy the ENTIRE script as the picture below is only an excerpt to show which one to look for.
[The rest below 'Keep Reading’ not to clog my followers’ dashboard]
2. In Blender, click the mesh first and then Shift + Click the particle emitter so that they’re both selected in that order
