Well, this year has been a long wait, but finally my beloved Parochetus communis (Shamrock Pea) has finally started flowering. Thus, it must be today’s #oneadayplant . I love this little plant and have grown it many times over the years even growing it in open ground in a handful of spots to reasonable success. Though it isn’t reliably hardy in winter, given decent drainage, I’ve found that it comes through most. . Essentially, what you have, is a small (2cm) blue pea flower held above oxalis/clover leaves. Half hardy technically, some seem more durable than others so I suspect that where the seed originated has some impact on their resilience. . Native to parts of Asia and Africa. My suspicion is that the plants grown from seed collected in high altitude Asia are the hardiest. . Grows well in a pot and is probably best recommended for one due to hardiness questions. It is just fun and easy going. . Not a great deal more to say about it that that. I would love a fully hardy selection to be found as makes great groundcover. Maybe one day.
