Parnassia palustris (Marsh Grass of Parnassus) todayโs unusual #oneadayplant . Yesterday I visited one of my favourite beaches in the world, Tentsmuir Beach and Nature reserve in my home county of Fife. . Aside from the miles of silvery sand, it is unusual and interesting, as it extends from Forest, to Marshland, through to Sand Dunes and then Beach. . On the marsh, which was pretty dry at present there were thousands of plants of Parnassia palustris (which is not a grass), each with 5-15 beautiful, pure white flowers. Flowers are pleasantly honey-scented to attract pollinators. This plant is seen throughout the Northern Hemisphere and I understand that it is the County plant of Cumbria. One thing is for sure though, is that it isnโt commonly seen, even if it does thrives in the areas where it is found. . I love it and especially enjoyed seeing it with the pinks of the Common and Seaside Century plants and the foliage, (sadly no flower) of Northern Marsh Orchid. Sat low in between sand dunes with dwarf Luzula, crisped by the drought, the occasional dwarf Willow and surprisingly since growing on sand, Polypodium vulgare. . The intricate detail on the flower should not go unnoticed here. Very beautiful. Perhaps not for many gardens though. . #Parnassiapalustris #Parnassia #flower #marshgrassofparnassus #marsh #cumbria #iplantsman #dampplants #sand #sanddunes #beach #tentsmuir #fife #scotland #landscape #uniquelandscape #polypodium #salix #willow #bogplants #forest #wildlife #pollinators #pollinatorplants #bees #honey #luzula #fern #habitat (at Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve) https://www.instagram.com/p/CD8h20Qgl9i/?igshid=1boa0jw9nj9s7
