mm, while i think it’s clear in like episode one that they’re working off a similar template (workplace “scary girl”), i think even then they’re very distinct and they only get moreso. for one thing, april’s a girl and rosa’s very much an adult woman; april’s story’s about maturation and getting her shit together, and rosa—for all her defense mechanisms, for all her volatility—has her shit together. is doing what she wants to do and is good at it, very clearly knows who she is. which april’s very much in the process of figuring out. (her growth arc is one of my fav and i think subtlest + most consistent things on parks.)

plus, april’s brand of wigging people out is very performative, whereas when people get freaked out by rosa’s outbursts or breaking a printer or whatever, it’s because of something organic to who she is. she’s got a temper. april’s 2spooky~ thing is a deliberate put-on, like a really long-running deadpan joke (which she’ll let up and get, however briefly, genuine when she really loves someone and wants to tell them something important), where the whole point of rosa’s hardassery is that it’s part of her. it’s not a front. she’s bigger than it, she’s got flaws, she’s recognizably human as everyone on b99 is, but that doesn’t mean she’s faking it or using it as a cover-up for any hidden insecurities or trauma.
