PARIS DUNK HYPE REAL?
It’s no secret that the aftermarket exists because these sneakers, toys, apparel, and accessories are highly sought out for. But who are paying these ridiculous prices? Not too long ago, we saw a record breaking sale of the Paris Dunk that sold for a hefty price of $51,950 on StockX (May 8, 2020). F*cking crazy for a pair of sneakers. Again, are these people wearing it? Are these people holding on to it? What is the purpose of this (now) $50,000+ sneakers?
We don’t know. We as [normal] resellers are mesmerized by the market, especially StockX. Who is buying? When we first started out, it was [almost] clearer who was buying these things. It was genuinely a hub of sneaker enthusiast who loved the sh*t out of the culture. It was collectors of all calibers that wanted all the Jordans that ever released, or all the AJ1 in every color way, or people who wanted to dress like their favorite idol/role model, and the list continues… More importantly, we believe majority of us started our collection by saving up the small amount of money, trading up, and really having an unexplainable attachment to these items. We wanted more because it made us feel “special.” We genuinely believe that [not a lot] people had that type of money starting out.
Now, is this feeling becoming too expensive to afford? Has people figured out how to put a price tag on that? The Paris Dunk has been on our list of grails to obtain. After seeing the price tag however, we feel like that might change. Will the new price tag on these pair increase as time passes? Will the person who purchased these wait to put the market up again? Is StockX the only place the Paris Dunk are being sold?
What is the meaning of all this? LOL. Our heads are spinning as well. How much are the big time resellers/collectors paying for these? Are they the one paying $52,000+? Only time will tell if these will hold value. But this being an older shoe, most likely to never re-release, it being an artist collab, the price tag is here to stay. Hopefully, one day we will get to see it in our hands. Until then, we will be scavenging the www, all of the hype world in hopes to find someone selling for less or willing to trade…[fingers crossed]
