Library [2nd year] William and Marlene
William tried his best to comprehend each word he's reading for the History of Magic quiz they'd be having the next day. It's not enough his father is constantly grilling him about perfecting his grade but also the pressure of being a great addition to the Slytherin Quidditch team this year. Finally after years of practice, he was welcomed to the team even he's just on his second year. But on top it all of, his relationship with Marlene McKinnon is becoming too strained.
Not that they're going out or anything that would be a laugh considering they don't even know the dynamics of actually being in a relationship in their age but she had always been the girl Nott pined for.
They grew up in two estates beside each other and coming from both pureblood families it's no surprise they practically grew up together. In all honesty, William can't think of his childhood without Marlene being there, aside from the times his father won't let any visitors of course because William is being trained into early magic control that started when he was 5 years old and barely knowing why he was being subjected to such strict rules and body pain.
He brushed off those horrible moments of his mind and once again tried to concentrate on reviewing. The library is quiet and provided the needed recluse he needed. Still the picture of the blonde Gryffindor flashed in his thoughts. William cursed under his breathe. He shouldn't be this affected about her and he had to think back where everything started became so strained. He always thought that coming to Hogwarts will be a start of greatness but he was dead wrong. First of all, his bestfriend was sorted to Gryffindor which was a first considering that everyone in the Black family just like the Nott's are always sorted in Slytherin to make it worse even Marlene was also sorted in the same house as Sirius. It's like the two of the most important people in his life was taken away from him exactly on his first day.
But he tried, he tried not to think it will change anything between them. Sirius will continue to be his bestfriend. Marlene will still be the girl who can make him smile even on the darkest of day. Once again, he was proven wrong. Sirius and him barely talk like before because as soon as he connected with Potter and the rest of those rejects he usually hangs out now, Marlene also started hanging around mudbloods that his parents have warned them for years.
Soon enough, the gap is becoming too big to ignore. He barely spoke to Sirius and in order to not hurt Marlene's feelings, William just decided to shut up when they spend time together instead of insulting her new-found friends not that it doesn't slip out once in awhile. It was really tiring especially it becomes one big fight between the two of them resulting to more silent treatment that just became too much to bear. But instead of fixing it, he decided that maybe cutting up ties was really the best thing to do. They're not seeing eye to eye anymore and knowing Marlene she wouldn't let him win either. He had been avoiding her for days that's why he had been studying here instead in the corridors where they usually seat and gnashing the weird looks they get as students find it interesting for a Slytherin and a Gryffindor actually getting along just fine. But everything's opposite of fine now, they are in two different paths and fighting the current is too hard to do.
Finally, deciding that he wouldn't even have any studying done, he started to close his books and gather them one by one to put in his bag when a familiar whiff of perfume caught his attention. It's a scent he knew too well. How many times had be stood or sat next to the sweet smell of Marlene? He honestly don't know but right now it raises longing he had been trying to supress for days. As expected, she was there looking at him with eyes flashing with contempt and all William can think is how beautiful she is.
