While the quality of the faculty at the College of Winterhold is, on the surface, impressive, as all members of the tenured staff appear to be engaged in active research and publication, we find the absence of Institutional Review Board oversight deeply troubling. While the student to faculty ratio is competitive compared to peer institutions, and students can expect small class sizes and individual attention from their instructors, we would like to note that attrition rates are high, as most students who discontinue their studies seem to never be seen again. Many graduates and former attendees of the College persue necromantic arts as their subsequent career, in the absence of active faculty offering courses in necromancy. Furthermore, lack of appropriate field methods training, combined with the poor state of the facilities - especially the area known as the Midden - places the Mages College in Tier 3 of the current Tamrielic Universities Rankings.
The current state of the city of Winterhold does not warrant a life off-campus.
