I started reading this book called 1Q84, and it’s very interesting not so much because of the plot (which I’m still not entirely sure what it is) but because there’s a lot of it in the beginning that sort of seems like pointless, irrelevant details that don’t seem like they’re going to go anywhere... and then they DO go somewhere. ALL of them. And even though it’s a very, very slow book, where the payoff for all the seemingly random events and details takes a really long time to get to, it never really feels boring. It’s not exciting per se (at least, not up to the point I’m at) but at the same time the mysteries it so delicately forms inspire a sort of casual curiosity.
I’m on chapter 20 out of 79 and I have absolutely no idea how he’s going to fill all those chapters, but he has convinced me that he knows what he’s doing even if he takes a really long time to do it
