False Pretenses

Oz had had enough of making deals with devils. No matter what shape they took, human and chain alike, it never meant anything but trouble. Oz had been around those tunnels of lies and paths that lead to artificial lights one too many times already. He knew the drill, knew that everything was always too good to be true, so he shouldn't have been tempted by one more false promise.
But then this thing had appeared before him and promised something no one had ever before been willing to give the hapless heir to the Bezarius dukedom. “You know what my original sin is?”And all it was asking him in return was something he wouldn’t miss. Oz was about to consider it, before this creature it didn't want it from him, it wanted to get to his sister.
The conversation would have ended, violently, right there. But then there was shouting, someone calling out from behind him. Oz turned and was face to face with a young girl, probably around Ada’s age. “Who are you?”
