It was the last day before Lui headed home for the holidays, and he’d put off giving Aster her present for days now. Ever since stupid Gwen had made him realize he’d gone and caught stupid feelings, he’d been almost afraid to see her -- like he was afraid that seeing her would make it all real, and would make his feelings slam into him harder than ever. He’d picked her gift out months ago, though (maybe another hint he should have taken sooner that this girl was somehow something special to him), and he didn’t want it to go to waste, so now Lui found himself walking all the way across Walt as snow fell down around him, Aster’s gift tucked under his arm.
Shaking the snowflakes out of his hair once he was under the cover of her front porch, Lui raised a hand to ring the doorbell of 2374 Whimsy Road. He almost hoped that no one would answer, so he could drop the gift off without having to deal with the fact that his palms were all sweaty and he wasn’t even sure if he could remember how to act cool around her now that his oblivious bubble had been burst. But he heard footsteps headed towards the front door, so instead Lui held his breath, waiting to see if it was Aster or hopefully one of her brothers that was waiting for him on the other side.
