Hey anon thanks for the ask! I’ve only used WileyPLUS for one semester (but I will be using it for the next couple years) but I have used Pearson’s online counterpart which is very similar. Also, I used Wiley for Accounting and what works for me may not work with you so don’t feel discouraged if this doesn’t work for you. I guess I can start off with the options you have in getting a good grade which has worked for me. 

You

Everything starts off with you. From my experience Wiley was used as an online companion to what we were learning in class. This is why it’s very important to listen in class, ask questions, and take good notes. More than that, use your syllabus as your holy guide through the class because it helps you to prepare for exams or see what you will be learning in class. However I have noticed that sometimes what you’re learning in class doesn’t always match what you get tested on so it’s very important to do your homework on Wiley as early as possible after a lecture so the information is fresh in your head and you can email your professor for any problems you may face. Sometimes, Wiley messes up so be very observant so you don’t get unnecessary points off! In my opinion I hate Wiley or Pearson Lab because I feel like I don’t learn anything from them–I’d rather take paper homework .

Your professor

Every professor is different and may utilize Wiley differently. My professor allows us three chances to get each problem right but a problem can have over 20 or more components in Accounting because of the journal entries involved. If you do have a set amount of chances to get a problem correct do it once and if you get it wrong you can work through it again and if you just don’t get it you can email your professor (this is why it’s important to do homework early). In addition, formatting on Wiley can be different to what you’re learning in class so asking your professor questions during class can help you with that. 

Wiley resources

Wiley has a ton of resources you can use if you want to invest more study time on. Personally, I’ve never used them because I have found the combo of notes, professor, and textbook to be efficient. Wiley follows the textbook strictly so familiarizing yourself with practice quizzes or the other resources it offers can provide you with more in-depth insight that what you learn in class because you only have so much time.

Your textbook

I don’t take handwritten notes straight from my textbook for all my classes because I wouldn’t have time for anything else. However, if you’re really struggling I recommend looking through your syllabus and taking notes for the chapter you will be covering your next class. It is seriously a blessing to understand what your professor is talking about because you prepared rather than being confused and not being able to keep up. I wish I did this for Accounting but I just couldn’t spare any extra time for notes. Other than that, it’s also good to keep your textbook by your side during your homework so you can easily refer to a chapter or you can use the ebook and video versions. When I did problems links to the ebook and videos would be by the questions and sometimes the videos showed you how to do the problem step-by-step so make sure to utilize every tool given to you!
