♟- The first time they knew they were in love

Was it love? It sure as hell wasn’t the chems. Not this time, anyway. There had been times in the past when Hancock thought he felt love, had been so sure of the feeling he would’ve sworn on it. After all, he should’ve been able to recognize it. He’d been raised with two parents that loved the shit out of each other.

Now, with her, it was obvious he had never really felt it. Not this way. Looking back, it was like those preserved pies in the Port-A-Diners. Pretty, but how could something like that be any good? There was something off about it. Sure, irradiated food could pack a punch, but you knew it was real. You didn’t have the ups without the downs. 

And Piper was one hell of an up.

They certainly hadn’t gotten off on the best foot. Like many things, it was unclear to him when that had changed. Traveling with their mutual friend fostered a healthy respect between the two. The feeling had turned into an interesting friendship, and their similar sexual drives sure as hell didn’t hurt that. At some point, he’d woken up, tangled between thin sheets and her limbs, and realized he was happy.
