it's been a lazy Sunday full of work and play ~ dug through a box of postcards and pulled out some local Delaware County landmarks #ephemera #vintagepaper #paperbits #remnants #work #mywork #myjob #ilovemyjob #hardworkpays #imasimplegirl #estatecleanout #cleanout #estatework #realestate #investment #nitforsale #ispy #thatssodelco #delcomemories #memoriesofdelco #delco #delawarecounty #delcopa (at Ridley Park, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGyLdQrHlA1/?igshid=11xaur33wk2po
most asked question? "do you ever find anything good?" In actuality our job requires us to get our clients belongings where they want them to go, first and foremost ~ after a client has given permission they no longer want something, usually it's old paper, books and odds and ends that I tuck away for projects yet to come (more on that at a later date) ~ today was spent sorting through the remnants of a pretty messy estate ~ reading notes and cards from someone else's life was a relaxing way to spend the day ~ here is just some of the old local and distant advertising ~ do you remember any of these names? #ephemera #vintagepaper #paperbits #remnants #work #mywork #myjob #ilovemyjob #hardworkpays #imasimplegirl #estatecleanout #cleanout #estatework #realestate #investment #forsale (at Ridley Park, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGwb5mTnW46/?igshid=k7zpnjtxh6gc

"Speaking as an adoptee, I believe that the physical and emotional life of my mother should have been considered just as important, if not more, as that of the fetus growing in her uterus that ended up being me. Losing your newborn baby to adoption is extremely traumatic for a parent. Helping a mother parent her newborn, if this is what she truly wants to do, is much more compassionate and "pro-life" than scaring and shaming the mother into "giving her baby a better life through adoption.""
"Whatever reverence [the Republican candidates] have for fetuses is equalled by their disdain for women as anything but human sacrifices.
"Having been part of installing a large gallery show, as well as putting on my own digital installation, I can safely say: this bit is really hard, and it is really important. It’s not just about turning it on; it’s about keeping it running. Long-term, if it’s a hassle to start, or restart, or you have to restart it too often… eventually, the attendant responsible for that (if there even is one) will get bored." This is a thing that nearly killed me when developing an installation last month. And this is the rule of thumb that saved me: When building a thing you have to walk away from, try to reduce the number of layers you rely upon: use localhost instead of an internet connection if at all possible. Networking required? Use IP addresses instead of DNS if you can. Use static IP instead of DHCP. Ethernet instead of WiFi. Instead of Processing on top of a Java VM on top of Mac OS, can you get away with a Raspberry Pi running a python script? Can you use an Arduino Mega instead of a Raspberry Pi? Can you make your thing work on boot, deal with power-off gracefully, and clearly display an indicator that it is both on AND working? Hell, can you print something out and nicely mount it on gatorboard instead of using a screen? What is the simplest possible thing you think you can get away with? Now list all the components which have to work together for it to run. Try to kill as many of those as possible. And then pray to an uncaring universe that it will stay running. On your way home, you may pass an interactive billboard or kiosk displaying a blue screen, or a dialog box, or a screen saver. It will look dingy, horrible. Worse than nothing at all. That's what your exhibit could look like. Don't let it.
