a lot of the time people use it to describe characters that really have “not a very good character personality-wise” as the least of the problems (bella from twilight being a good example)

like in that case, bella’s problems weren’t really that she was a MARY SUE BAD CHARACTER EFF MINUS MINUS but the implications beyond a lot of her relationship being really bad and terrible on the part of the author

YEAH baiscally that and even then i wouldn't...call bella any sort of mary sue because she's just the product of unfortunate ideas/situations that the author wrote into the story
