During our discussion yesterday, we realized that many people aren’t aware of the true definition of human trafficking — the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion) for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation. (As defined by the United Nations) The definition is actually deeper than this and can’t be fully encompassed with these words. Our panelists gave us an emotional “snapshot” of the true nature of trafficking in the US and abroad and it’s staggering and often overwhelming to realize these truths. We finished our discussion speaking about solution-based thinking and our BFF empowerment initiatives. Art therapy and skills training makes a huge difference and equips survivors with tools they can use to manage hopelessness, fear and anger.
