On glory
The wonderful Abba Pamvo, who reached a great state of holiness through humility, prayed for three consecutive years: "Lord, do not glorify me on earth!" And yet, God glorified him to such an extent that no one could look upon his face because of the radiance that emanated from within him.
For the great practitioners of humble-mindedness, who have hated all vainglory, glory is not dangerous. However, for those who secretly long for it, it is downright destructive.
It was impossible for Saint Pamvo to be harmed by glory, for he had reached the depths of humility, from where one cannot fall any lower. For such humility, which flees from all renown, God bestows the greatest glorification.
