This Is My Dying Day
...I'm reading Piano's Are Made For Falling.
FicReview: Pianos are Made for Falling by fishwrites
Title: Pianos Are Made For Falling
Author: fishwrites
Word Count: Approximately 103,900
Genre: Modern AU, University, Fluff, Angst
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur Rating: NC-17 Summary:  Inspired by Nodame Cantabile. Arthur is a world class violinist, trapped in Sydney, Australia, by his fear of flying. In the wake of a mediocre concert, vicious critics and with barely a month to go before his next (hopefully reputation-saving) recital, Arthur is almost at breaking point. When his accompanist, Morgana, breaks her wrist in a car accident, Arthur is more or less doomed. And the story begins, when the Maestro at the conservatoire, Gaius Stresemann, recommends his protege Merlin Emrys to step in. Merlin, who plays by ear, as he pleases and really just wants to be a kindergarten teacher. Well. The story really starts six months previously when Arthur passes out drunk outside Merlin's shoe-box apartment.
Review: This is another fic that has made a lot of hype on Tumblr and I think its well deserved. Although at first, I had trouble clenching onto the idea of Arthur playing a violin, the author really paints the characters very well and believably. Best part by far is the use of the plushies throughout the piece and Merlin’s attention to sweet little details like strawberry milk (which I had to pick up at the store cause the story made me crave it like mad), the birds, and battered clothing. The writing was very well done. I have to warn the reader though that it is a bit of a heartbreaker and might induce sobbing (I cried like a baby) but if, like me, you are a masochistic fangirl with lots of feels, this is the piece for you.   The only complaint I have was the timing was a little out of hand and sometimes you would get lost. Also make sure you read the Parts 2 of chapters seven and nine for I didn’t and then got really confused.
