Darkdawn, the final book in The Nevernight Chronicle, a book I happily waited two years for, and a book that was everything I wanted and more. I first found these books a few years ago, and I tore through the first one, gulping down every word, every moment, with unabashed joy and tears. The second, brought me to my knees, with the introduction of some of my favourite characters ever, and some of my favourite pieces of writing ever. This last one, the third, is perhaps my favourite, for several reasons. The final book, it was always going to be bittersweet, but it broke my heart and gave me joy in equal measure. It spoke to me, in the way that books and their worlds and characters do, of the strength it takes just to live, and not give in to the fear that holds us in its grasp, every day. That to love is the scariest thing of all, but to embrace it takes a strength beyond measure. Because facing our fear is the hardest thing we can do, but by not letting it win, we are stronger and better for it. Mia Corvere, our stabby bitch, is not a hero, but it is not hero's that we need. But people, who can inspire us and show us the way, even in the darkest times.
